Job Posted September 23, 2003 How do you use other skies for the expansive F_Sky? Do you use Wintex and extract them from other wads, or is there a wad file that has all of the F_Sky textures you can use? 0 Share this post Link to post
The Ultimate DooMer Posted September 23, 2003 The sky graphics are called SKY1-4 (DooM 1) and RSKY1-3 (DooM 2), load up a replacement with Wintex and rename it to the appropriate one. But whichever sky you use will always appear as F_SKY1 in the editor, that's the name used to represent the sky. 0 Share this post Link to post
Job Posted September 23, 2003 Ok -- but I was mainly referring to things like the starry skies and skies that aren't included in the Doom wads. 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted September 23, 2003 The Ultimate DooMer's post covers the basic method. Find a graphic you want and replace sky1-4 or rsky1-3 with it. The name of the sky texture used is determined by which level you make your map for. If you are making a replacement map01, replace rsky1. You can extract them from other wads (you should ask author permission before releasing). Heh, I found a nice starry one being used as the background on some pr0n site. :-) There are other things that can be done. A 1024 wide sky wraps round fully with no repeating and some ports allow you to specify a different sky for each level - sometimes even different skies within a level. In most cases, however, F_SKY1 is the flat you put on the ceiling (or floor) to tell Doom to use whichever sky texture is allocated as the sky for that level. 0 Share this post Link to post
