The GDC '04 - John Carmack

Recommended Posts

Gosh I wish I could go....but I'm not a professional game developer lol. Anyone going? I just want to see John Carmack speak. He's going to be the programming keynote speaker.

btw, how many people program here, or are into game other aspects of game development (art, music, etc.) I know basic C++, and starting out on windows programming.

As it stands now, I have a year's experience of C++ and I'm currently taking Java in college right now.

Odds are, if you went, you wouldn't have the slightest clue of what Carmack was talking about. Of course, neither would most of the rest of us.

Meanwhile, the CGC is this weekend. No representation from id, but a lot of industry weight being thrown around regardless.

I qualify for the professional game developer part, but I can't afford to go to America right now :P

Programming is the easy part. Making good programs that don't fall over every 5 seconds is the fun part.

Stupid polygons... wish this was 1994 so I could do video game art.

Slap me on the side of the head, will ya?

I won't be able to go CGC in it's entirety (sp?) since I gotta study all weekend for a damn government test...

The first was Dark Arena (bad levels :P). The second (and third actually) were in-production titles...sadly I think the company doesn't exist anymore, so... :P

I did levels.
