Vegeta Posted December 13, 2003 I have some problems with 60.cab Each time that I run that version (with any map), the game crash just after a few seconds (even if I just sit there without pressing any key). I don't know what is the problem. Version 38.cab was more stable, but I don't want to miss the wads designed for the new version. Any suggestion? If it helps, here is the error message that was displayed last time on DOOM2.wad map01 (without pressing any key). I asked Randy but it seems that he is too busy. Also I asked in http://forum.zdoom.org/ but they only suggest upgrade to Windows XP (something that I don't want to do). Damn, I really want to play Daedalus, but with this I can't. If someone have the time, I would really like to see a list of posible solutions. I know that this is not the funniest tread, but please, help a fellow doomer. ------- Code: ACCESS_VIOLATION Tried to read address 010a8043 Flags: 00000000 Address: 0051b31e Windows 9x 4.10 Build Ultraviolet Posted December 13, 2003 Randy won't be reading your crash report here, and therefore he can't fix it. Nobody else has the ZDoom-specific knowledge to interpret your crash message, so it does no good here. If nobody at ZDoom.org has been able to help you yet, I suggest you wait THERE rather than coming HERE, because you won't get any better help at Doomworld than at ZDoom.org. Try cleaning up your computer and such. Perhaps even a clean Windows re-install could help you with a lot of other problems as well. 0 Share this post Link to post
Vegeta Posted December 13, 2003 Ok, I'll wait for the next version I think. 0 Share this post Link to post
The Ultimate DooMer Posted December 13, 2003 It's probably a system problem (mine's the same, anything newer than 47 is prone to lock-ups at any time). Play around with your system and see if there's anything needs fixing - eg. too much space taken up, corrupted files/folders, memory, virii, adware/spyware etc. 0 Share this post Link to post
Shadow Wolf Posted December 16, 2003 cant read crash messages very well 0 Share this post Link to post

Quasar Posted December 17, 2003 Actually, since those stack dumps and the such are from the optimized release build of zdoom, they're perfectly useless (you cannot debug release executables, as the symbol information is removed, and optimization can destroy any semblence the compiled code has to the source code). 0 Share this post Link to post

They are not completely useless. If you have a .MAP file you can track down which function caused the crash and from where it was called. That alone can be a lot of help. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cyb Posted December 17, 2003 heh yeah, that's just silly Quasar, they're quite useful, why else would they be in there? randy has fixed quite a good deal of bugs in zdoom using them. Of course they're not much use to anyone but randy, but hardly useless. 0 Share this post Link to post
timmie Posted December 17, 2003 They're actually really useful, so long as you keep the map file from that build around. Just match up the calls from the stack dump to the calls in the map file and you can at least find out which function it died in and the path it took to get there. Heh, just make sure you copy that map file somewhere so it doesn't get overwritten on the next build, like I usually forget to do :( 0 Share this post Link to post

Graf Zahl Posted December 18, 2003 Quasar said:Well ok in that case, yes. How do you generate one of those, btw? I've never figured it out ^_^ In Visual C++ go to Project -> Settings -> Linker -> generate MAP file. I hope the names are correct. I have the German version of VC so I don't know the exact names in English. For other compilers I cannot say. GCC has a command line option but don't ask me what it is.
