Are corpses going to decay?

Recommended Posts

I was moreorless refering to Graveyard Disciple as a whole, but yeah graphic wise it would be cool, although I can't see a reason why it would be used in a game. Maybee in a vampire game where they are exposed to sunlight, but that's probably not what you mean.

Though I expect ID will have a similar thing to this in the form of the zombies coming back to life. In the alpha they would die and come back a maximum of 3 times; it didn't work well because they came back too quickly and most reanimated at least once, so I just stuck around intil they were dead. If tweaked a bit though, it'd be a good tool for [more] suspense.

Yeah, I thought it was stupid that after you killed them, 5 to 10 seconds later they would come back. Sure it can suprise you the first time, but then it becomes redundent.
Maybe if they started to crawl around after some time it would be a better effect.
since it was just an alpha, I hope it will change in the final release.

Another neat twist maybe if not only did the zombies reanimate at random rates but if it was also random as to which ones came back and which ones didnt...that way you wouldn't nessisaraly know which of the zombies out of however many you've taken out would come back again...another cool effect, if you blew off a leg or severed the torso somehow if the upper body crawled after you.

Limb dismemberment is not in Doom 3 - that's official.
Sorry.

Do we know for sure that there will be a nightmare difficulty level?

We have no idea, no.

that would be cool. it would add a scary factor. for example, today i was playing halo, and an elite spawned near a wall behind me. he made a death moan and i though he was dead. I went over to investigate only to find him jump up and try to kill me. I damn near jumped outta my skin, and it was only halo, not very scary.

I think it would be a great idea if when you find the ancient civilisation beneath the surface of mars you see decayed dead demons, so the same type of demons and zombies you killed on the mars base but allot more decayed (they could have been there for a long time).
Imagine finding a long dead hell knight, all bone and rotten flesh.

Then, maybe when you get back to the mars base after hell when the base is all twisted and evil Id like to see some of the monsters I killed still there dead but decayed, think it'd be pretty freaky seeing that and realising that maybe I was in hell for a little longer than I thought.

Oh and first post, hi everyone. :)

It'd actually be a real good suspense builder if you saw the skeleton of a larger type of enemy before actually encountering it, in my opinion. Although not in Hell.

Yeah or maybe even loads of hacked up torched humans AND demons littering the hallways, the further you go down the less decayed they seem to be, skeletons at the start, more fleshy dead bodies towards the end of the coridoor until you get to the end where the bodies seem freshly dead, before you open the door to find your first encounter with a rather large monster.

Wait, what about a bodie being dead when you enter the room, and the archvile, or somthing rasing it to life?

that would be cool.

That is classic, and it will be there for sure

He means a corps that was dead already right from the start, when you entered the room, not a monster you killed before. But yes, it doesn´t make much of a difference :)

That´s a cool idea, if it could be done in a way that you actually notice the time difference. It´s a bit like in those old tales where someone visits underearth elf people and when he returns after a week, 100 years have passed in the real world.

Over at the Planetdoom forums, they are stating that an article about the X-box version of D3 in the Gamepro April edition (in the US at least) states that the bodies will disapear. Also info on the new caco among other things. Apparently he will be spawning the Lost Souls and will have multiple eyes. Also the Xbox will feature Co-op. Just figured I'd update. I hope this isn't considered a bump as I'd rather add to an existing thread rather than starting a similar new one.

EDIT:Ahh silly me, this thread was just updated like a week ago.

a article about the xbox version stated that the demons will go up in flames and the zombie's wil stay and you will have to wade trough them hoping you wont get crabbed by the ankels by one :)

hmm...burning demons sounds interesting.
So it seems that the caco doesn't look like a big tomato anymore.

the gamepro mag page 36

"demons will burn away, but zombie corpses will stay," says Tim Willits. "You just have to step over them and make sure they don't get up and grab you"

So the new cacodemon is the combination of the original cacodemon and the pain elemental, to make the new doom 3 cacodemon is that right? if so... i'm gonna miss that waddling one eyed pain "in the neck" elemental.

Well I did read something about lost souls and cacodemons in the same sentence....who knows?
Woah...post #7500...fantastic.

Plus I hope its only the X-Box version the bodies disappear, i would like the bodies to stay in the PC one still, so i can admire my agonising battles with my demonic foe's. :D

This sucks :-/
I was hoping that Doom 3 would do away with that annoying lost soul spawning machine once and for all - it looks like I'm to be disappointed in this regard.

That cacodemon had better have the ability to actually attack you in addition to spawning souls. Monsters whose only attack consists of spawning lesser enemies suck.

The new arch-vile? Monster summoning ability.

I assume it still retains revive and the hellfire attack though.

Yeah but DSM, you have to admit, the pain elemental literally was a complete pain!. I hate the thing's, because of the lost soul's coming out every few seconds but at the same time liked the creativity of it rather than another caco clone. But I am gonna be annoyed if the new caco is basically the pain elemental.

Thats a good point, if the monsters burn up/disappear in the X-Box version, the archvile's gonna be half as irretating won't it?

Basically any 'Thank God' reactions you had like I did for removing the shittiest monster in Doom 2, please hold them back in wretched disgust as one of the cooler monsters had been desecrated.

I´m sure it will have an offensive attack as well, otherwise there would be no reason to call it Cacodemon! If it only could spawn Lost Souls it would simply be a new version of the Pain Elemental.

Demons dying in flames sounds good for Imps etc. But I hope at least the Mancubus will go SPLAT!! :D

Exactly what I was getting at. The PE's "saving grace" was that it was rather creative that it spawned lost souls and admittedly, I would've been able to deal with it if it wasn't because it spawns a lost soul every second or so.

But as you yourself implied (or what you more or less said), a cacodemon that only spawns lost souls is not a cacodemon, rather a Pain Elemental that they just called "Cacodemon" to make it seem like good ol' Cacodaco was back in action.

I´m sure it will have an offensive attack as well, otherwise there would be no reason to call it Cacodemon! If it only could spawn Lost Souls it would simply be a new version of the Pain Elemental.

Quite.
See now if it only spawns a lost soul once in a while, but attacks you repeatedly with an attack similar, or remotely similar, to its original lightning ball (anything that involves shooting some kind of electricity from its mouth), then it'd be so awesome that I wouldn't have a single beef with it I think.
However, if the lost soul spawning has become its central "attack", then I'd definitely be less pleased (like, "not very pleased").

And then there's the deal on how it looks. I haven't read the gamepro article, so I'll just wait and see. Some of the Planetdoom Members have said that the caco will not look like a big, floating tomato - whether they actually read that from the article or just assumed judging by the brief description (multi-eyed, flying thingy that spawns lost souls), I don't know so I'll take that claim with a grain of salt. Who knows (other than obviously Id)? It might still look like a big, floating ball. I just hope it looks particularly disgusting. The multieyed aspect could turn out to be something along the lines of what I drew a short while ago (yes, it actually has a mass of countless tiny eyes with one bigger eye at the center), so that might not be as bad as some cacofans might assume by now.

Link to post

Yeah not bad idea dsm, it may have one central eye, but as you say "who knows bar ID". But you may be right with the cacodemon, because as ID said, there won't be mass amounts of monsters on screen, so the caco must have a limit to the lost souls it can spawn (i recon 3-5) so it must have an alternative attack.
