Quast Posted January 25, 2004 Read about this on fark last week. Very interesting nonetheless. I'm no lawyer, so I don't know much about copyright laws. It's sound-a-like, but "he though it would be funny to put 'soft' at the end". The website is just a bunch of forums. 0 Share this post Link to post

Manc Posted January 25, 2004 The article said: He wrote back asking to be compensated for giving up his name. Microsoft's lawyers offered him $10 in U.S. funds. Hahahaha Yay for "bill gates" for giving so generously. Seriously, they could have at least offered the standard highball cost of a yearly domain registration ($35). 0 Share this post Link to post
Stealthy Ivan Posted January 25, 2004 I cant wait to see the day the microsoft dies!!! Its gonna be like the fall of Rome... Hmm, If I was that kid I would tell Macrofags to kiss my ass, and try to come find me mother fuckers! 0 Share this post Link to post

Of course, their website has been down for over a year, so I guess it's all good. 0 Share this post Link to post

læmænt Posted January 26, 2004 Such insolence! I hope Microsoft sues him and he goes to jail. 0 Share this post Link to post
NiGHTMARE Posted January 26, 2004 For some reason I read that as "I hope he sues Microsoft and they go to jail." :P I would agree with what I initially thought you said, but you can't sue someone and have them end up imprisoned for it :) 0 Share this post Link to post

Sephiroth Posted January 28, 2004 ok, well i dont fallow micronuts. i wonder if they have tried to sue makers of linux and unix. i know MAC, back in the day, tried to sue them. by the way MAC turned 20 last week. 0 Share this post Link to post
fraggle Posted January 28, 2004 Yeah, over a bullshit "Look and Feel" copyright case which they quite rightly lost. Microsoft claiming a trademark on "Windows" is pretty stupid however, given that "window" is a generic term, which arent supposed to be possible to copyright. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted January 28, 2004 I heard the kid settled the suit for an X-Box. I'm to lazy to find an article on it though. 0 Share this post Link to post

Bucket Posted January 28, 2004 I don't know if you guys all remember the Al Franken Story... He's the actor/political satirist who wrote a book call "Lies and The Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair And Balanced Look at The Right". FOX News sued him over use of the phrase "Fair And Balanced". How did he respond? With a countersuit. FOX is a subsidiary of NBC, on which he worked as a cast member of Saturday Night Live. He sued for "defamation of character", explaining that his popular character on the show, Stuart Smalley depicted him in a negative light. He said "Stuart was portrayed as a helpful, understanding counselor, while in real life I'm an asshole." FOX News dropped the suit. So I guess now it's plausible to sue over copyrighted phrases and words, even though they may appear in day-to-day conversation. I just hope the porn business doesn't get into this habit, or I may never be able to swear in public again. 0 Share this post Link to post
