chubberz Posted February 8, 2004 Hey guys, i use DOOMBUILDER and was wanting to add a custom .MIDI to my wad.....how do u do that with Doombuilder? Thx for any help (if this is simple....im gonna feel like such an idiot :( ) 0 Share this post Link to post
Tolwyn Posted February 8, 2004 I don't believe DoomBuilder's featureset includes a PWAD resource editor. I recommend XWE and/or Wintex 5. You can find XWE in the recent news. Wintex is in the utilities section. With XWE, load the MIDI file as an entry and rename the entry to the lump name it is to replace (d_runnin for map01 of Doom2, for example). 0 Share this post Link to post

Tolwyn Posted February 9, 2004 Ha. No problem. Start XWE. File - New (or open existing PWAD) Entry - Load Find your MIDI file After it's in the PWAD, goto: Entry - Rename (or use the right-click context menu) Name it the Entry that the Doom(2) PORT uses to play that lump. D_RUNNIN is the name for MAP01 of Doom2. Note: If you're using Doom2.exe and NOT a port, a MIDI file will NOT work using XWE. You'll need to either first convert it to a MUS format via MIDI2MUS found in the utility section of Doomworld, or use WinTEX5 which does the converting (using MIDI2MUS) in the background. 0 Share this post Link to post
chubberz Posted February 9, 2004 k......i tried it again but i cant get it to work. Every time i double click the icon to start the program up, it asks me for the main wad file. I give it the directory it is in, but it always says "ACCESS DENIED". Once i click cancel i get into the XWE program, but when i click entry, load, and double click the midi file im trying to put in it, it always says "I/O Error 6" I cant figure this stuff out!!!! (im such an idiot) 0 Share this post Link to post
Tolwyn Posted February 9, 2004 Uh. Ok. Make sure you have 1.12 of XWE. As far as your Doom2 IWAD, if it's in: c:\games\doom2 then the path to the doom2.wad is: c:\games\doom2\ Don't forget the trailing backslash "\" 0 Share this post Link to post
Epyo Posted February 9, 2004 Are you opening the wad before trying to put the midi in? 0 Share this post Link to post
chubberz Posted February 10, 2004 nm, i got Wintex (MUCH BETTER) and i figured out how to use it in just 5 minutes or less (thx to shadowrunner, he tutored me, hehe) And i got the music to work in my map, so YIPEE but the music he supplied was a test, i have a .midi file, but i donno how to convert it to a .mus file....how can i do that!??? 0 Share this post Link to post
Tolwyn Posted February 10, 2004 If you used Wintex, it automatically converted it to a MUS file for you. You never answered the question, are you using a PORT or the doom2.exe ? Wintex is no better or worse, just different. Wintex does a few things for the user on his/her behalf, which may or may not be desired. XWE makes less assumptions and the interface is different (and supports or has support for more games). 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted February 10, 2004 Wintex doesn't actually convert music for you, it requires an external program to do the conversion. If you rename the .mid files to .mus before importing them, Wintex should import them as-is. 0 Share this post Link to post

Fredrik Posted February 10, 2004 You must configure Windows to display filetype extensions in the filenames. 0 Share this post Link to post

ellmo Posted February 11, 2004 You could try downloading a shareware version of DeepSea, chubberz. It has a very simple way to import/export files into/from a PWAD/WAD. A complete tool for those puropses. In case you already have it on your CPU: 1.Run it. 2.Press F7 in the main window. 3.Select "add multiple files into a PWAD" (or something). 4.Click on "Target file" and select the Pwad you want to add the music to. 5.Click on "Add Files" and add *.MID files of your desire. 6.Whent that is completed click on "Save file" 7.Should work. 0 Share this post Link to post
