sean773 Posted February 27, 2004 Hello, first let me introduce myself. My name is sean, and im 14 years old. I remember playing doom when I was really young..my friends dad worked with computers and he would always let me and my friend play doom. Those were the good old days, when nomatter how hard we tried we couldnt open doom through DOS without his dads help. Well, a few 8 or 9 years later, and here I am wanting to play again. First, I have a few questions (i know there is the faq..but i just feel better having a topic about it). First of all, what is a good fairly easy to use level editor that I should get? Second, my comp is running windows 2000, and I have verizon dsl..is there anyway I can get online without having to pay for a service? 3rd, What exatcly are WADS. 4th, where is the best place I can get the original version of doom that would work on windows 2000. I know its alot of questions, but please help. THanks in advance. 0 Share this post Link to post
chilvence Posted February 27, 2004 1. doombuilder.com 2. zdaemon.org doomworld.com/skulltag doomconnector.com [unfortunately defunct at present time] 3. addons, usually levels. doomworld.com/idgames 4. things have changed a touch since 9 years ago. the source code for the game was released. various modifications have been made to it. a few random ones: legacy.newdoom.comzdoom.orgdoomsdayhq.comvavoom-engine.comedge.sourceforge.netprboom.sourceforge.netdoomworld.com/eternity I will now convert this into a canned post ready to fire on occasions like these 0 Share this post Link to post
Infinite Ammunition Posted February 27, 2004 1. Doom Builder has got to be one of the easiest to use level editors out there despite still being in development and being buggy. It's free and has a 3D mode to make texture aligning easy. 2. For good multiplayer sourceports look into Skulltag or ZDaemon. 3. WADs are the files that contain graphics, sounds, weapons, maps, etc. 4. Bargain bin, then download a good soureport like Zdoom or jDoom or something. Edit: Damn you Chilvence, I was gonna post first :P [mod]Don't even THINK about suggesting warez again.[/mod] [me]I didn't say I was passing out any, but oh well[/me] 0 Share this post Link to post
chilvence Posted February 27, 2004 Mines better, Muahahaha But I missed the fact that he was asking where to get the game rather than a doom.exe compatible with 2000. For that, theres always this: idsoftware.com 0 Share this post Link to post

And it is not good for your reputation to go about such shady business. Just something to think about, tubby. 0 Share this post Link to post
BattleCat Posted February 27, 2004 ...the fact that doom can be picked up legally for a pretty low amount doesn't make it better at all...shame on yous (accent thingy) ! 0 Share this post Link to post

Grazza Posted February 27, 2004 chubberz said:i can help you out It would be useful if you could clarify what precisely you meant by that. Offering warez is an instaban offence, and if what you had in mind was all perfectly legal, then why not say it here, as it might be useful to other people? Anyway, wasn't sean773 implying that he has the iwads already, but just lacks an exe that works in win2k? 0 Share this post Link to post

Why pay 25$ for a game that is 10 years old when you can buy games such as MAFIA, Hitman, and other games for just 10$ that arent old at all? Sure, we definetely owe ID a lot for their hard effort, but that will happen when we give 50$ for a copy of Doom 3. Here are some EBAY links for some SWEET prices on Doom games, which is much better than paying that much just for Doom. Doom 2 for 1$ - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3662377072&category=182 (on ID's website it is 25$, what a fucking rip) DOOM for 5$ - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3079812528&category=6205 Doom, Doom 2, Heretic, AND Hexen, all for just 26$ - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3080266669&category=62053 (why pay 25$ for each when you can get 4 for that one price!!??) Doom 2 and the OFFICIAL Strategy Guide for 2.50$ - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3079821353&category=62053 AND in my opinion, the most unbeatable package you can get if you want to relive all of those glorious ID memories.....ID Anthology, which comes with NINETEEN ID Games for just 15.50$.....see if you can beat that: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3079845252&category=62053#ebayphotohosting Good luck on reliving your Doom days.....trust me man, with EBAY, those days are not over =) 0 Share this post Link to post

Piezo Posted February 27, 2004 chilvence said:doomworld.com/skulltag No, skulltag is at http://www.skulltag.com/download/ You can check on the status of skulltag at http://www.skulltag.com/forum I think it's better than ZDaemon, but it is still a work in progress. Internet Doom Explorer (IDE) is a good program for browsing CSDoom, ZDaemon, adn Skulltag online games. Doom Connector is currently in the process of being revived. 0 Share this post Link to post
