sargebaldy Posted March 13, 2004 I don't really care how good people are as musicians, without good songwriters it all sounds like shit anyway. 0 Share this post Link to post
Hobo Posted March 13, 2004 Songwriting is important, but most of them are involved in the band somehow. 0 Share this post Link to post
sargebaldy Posted March 13, 2004 Sure they're involved in the band. But I won't say someone is the greatest vocalist or guitarist in the history of the world just because they have a good songwriter. 0 Share this post Link to post

If they aren't, then that band doesn't really have much creativity. 0 Share this post Link to post

If they aren't, then that band doesn't really have much creativity. my point is sometimes the songwriter can be an awful terrible musician, and sometimes you'll have incredible musicians who sound terrible because they can't write songs worth shit. Anyway, if I had to come up with an all-star band of people I myself enjoy (the word "best" is the most arrogant in the language), it'd probably be something like: Kurt Cobain/Thurston Moore/Lee Renaldo - Guitar John Bonham/David Grohl - Drums Rachel Grimes - Bass Kurt Cobain/Thurston Moore - Vocals Cobain/Moore/Renaldo/Kim Gordon - Songwriting 0 Share this post Link to post
Hobo Posted March 13, 2004 I agree, and they're damn genius to give it to a band that has absolutely no songwriting talent, and mooch money like mad. =P 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted March 13, 2004 Hmm.... Bass: Stanley Clarke Drums: Charlie Watts Flute: Joe Farrell Guitar: Jimmy Page or Neil Young Piano: Chick Corea Saxophone: John Coltrane Trumpet: Miles Davis 0 Share this post Link to post
sargebaldy Posted March 13, 2004 I considered Jimmy Page but he wouldn't really fit with the rest of people I listed. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted March 13, 2004 Guitar: Steve Howe Drums: Phil Collins Vocals: Roger Daltrey Piano: Vincent Guaraldi Bass: Ry-know(from Mudvayne) Rapper: Scarface 0 Share this post Link to post
Psyonisis Posted March 13, 2004 Guitarist: James Hetfield (even if they suck now, you can't ignore the wonderful guitar music he has created) Bassist: Les Claypool, Victor Wooten Drummer: Gene Holgan, Danney Carey, Neil Peart Vocalist: Devin Townsend, Robert Plant 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted March 13, 2004 Err, most of the bands I listen to fit in a conventional format, so I'll just list my ten favorite musicians (in no real order): Ogre cEvin Key Peter Christopherson Frank Zappa Edward Ka-Spel Phil Knight Syd Barrett Mark Walk Beck Hansen Victor Damiani Danny Carrey Some other musicians I respect include: Genesis P-Orridge, John McCrea, Maynard James Keenan, Wendy Carlos, Gary Numan, Thom Yorke, En Esch, Martin Atkins, Julian Hope, Ken Marshall, Paz Lenchantin, Layne Staley, Lou Reed, the guys from Kraftwerk and Neubauten, and anyone from Cake, or the original lineup of APC that I didn't mention. 0 Share this post Link to post

Remilia Scarlet Posted March 13, 2004 Vocals - Utada Hikaru Synths - Kraftwerk Trumpet - Arturo Sandoval Mouth Harp - Arturo Sandoval 0 Share this post Link to post
Quast Posted March 13, 2004 vocals - layne staley or freddy mercury not even a fan of queen, but that fucker could sing guitar - david gilmour or jimmy page drums and bass - can't think of any off the top of my head ATM that strike my fancy edit: how the hell could I forget phil anselmo for vocals? when he's not screaming anyway 0 Share this post Link to post
Ed Posted March 13, 2004 Guitar: Yngwie Malmsteen, Micheal Angelo, Paul Gilbert Bass: Victor Wooten (You tell me anyone that can play the nastest thing you've ever heard, mid-way in a backflip) Drums: Mike Portnoy Vocals: Steve Harris Keyboard: Janne Wirman Pimeys Synth/Programming: Tero Kostermaa That's only from a technical view, Gibby Haynes can't hit an F sharp in the 6th octave and hold it for thirty seconds, but I'd rather listen to him sing than power-metal singers. It's all a matter of taste, I can't stand a lot of prog arpeggio happy music most of the time. Personally, the ones that appeal to my tastes most: Guitar: Dick Dale, Fanatic Bass: Danny Lilker, Simon Gallup Vocals: Danzig, GG Allin, Numan, Animal (from Anti Nowhere League) Drums: Mikkey Dee ect ect ect, I'm tired 0 Share this post Link to post
Piezo Posted March 13, 2004 Trumpet: Vince di Fiore, Louie Armstrong Lead singer: John S. Hall, not because he's a good singer I don't think I have guitar or bass favorites. 0 Share this post Link to post
Anders Posted March 13, 2004 Vocals: Frank Sinatra, David Lee Roth, Freddy Mercury in that order. The rest is just background noise. 0 Share this post Link to post
