Doom 95 WAD versions

Recommended Posts

What is the version number of the Doom 2 .wad that came with Doom 95? I need to patch it and I'm not sure which patch I need.

The iwads that come with Doom95 are the final versions. No need to patch them.

What makes you think you need to? i.e. what isn't working for you at present?

If it's TNT.WAD and the map31 patch, then see this thread.

I don't know much at all about Zdaemon, but I'd suggest checking the file size of doom2.wad. It should be 14,604,584 bytes (and CRC: ec8725db). If it is something different, it might have been corrupted in some way (solution: reinstall from the CD).

If you realy have to find out the version of your IWAD's for some reason, then check out the version byte of the included DEMO lumps! NewWadTool can do this easily for example.
And for the official upgrades, just try them! They include safe version checks, so they just won't patch a wrong version.

Fodders is right. The wads that DOOM95 uses are different.

I've just checked the two versions on the id Anthology (Doom95 and DOS versions), and the iwads are identical (apart from a different date): same file size and CRC as I gave above.

Was this not the case for some other releases?

RTPatch (which id uses for their upgrades) fortunately doesn't care about this.
My Doom2.wads are sized and dated:
1.666: 14943400 25.08.94
1.7a: 14612688 18.10.94
1.9: 14604584 1.02.95
I once had the German version, but I sould that evil hacked release rather soon. I don't know the dates anymore for that, but there should be a patch for that version, too. Map31 and Map32 are missing there, though all the graphics, sprites and sounds are in, so nazi pwads would be no problem.
And of course, there also is a frensh version.
Also there might be versions, I am not aware of.
Hope this helps.
