A new kind of Online game..?

Recommended Posts

Reading the article about NAMCO publishing Flagship Studio’s first PC game (http://www.flagshipstudios.com/ ) prompts me to ask the question: what kind of game are they going to put out? Flagship’s team created the Diablo series when they were with Blizzard, so I assume it will be similar. Reading the interviews makes me think this will be an online game. Looking at the concept art, which almost looks like it was designed by the same guy who did Alien, I conclude that the game will be set in a sci-fi world. So how will this action/adventure be different? We can only speculate. But that leads me to another question: what kind of online game would we LIKE to see next?* If you can think of any online gaming aspects that you have not seen but would like to, post them here.

Err, many of senior Flagship staff were also involved with the creation of the Warcraft and Starcraft series (amongst numerous others), so I wouldn't assume anything right now :)

Vice City Online is Multi Theft Auto: Vice City. I don't know if anyone is still on it. Yes it is a mod for GTA: Vice City.

I'd like to see an MMO that focuses primarily on close combat, like those old brawler games. Martial arts and other fighting styles would be involved. I guess weaponry would come into play, but not as prevalent(requiring much more discipline).

Maybe a hired-assassin-type game where full-out attacks are a last resort would be cool. There would be a deathmatch element, but subdued due to a realistic setting. Missions would be centered around many DM variations: escort(by foot or by car), hunt and kill, infiltration/capture-the-flag(like a jewel heist), and so on. You could side with different underground factions in a city who oppose each other, or you could join the police...

Another interesting thing would be incorporating the "grouping" aspect of MMO's. Instead of running out with a healer and a few fighters to bash away at a monster, your group would have to make a coordinated attack on a target. Like three people need to enter a museum through the roof to steal an artifact, while the other three break into the basement and attempt to shut off the electricity.

*goes into intense thought...*

Many of the original creators work for a company which no longer makes PC games, so it seems unlikely.

The jackasses at Interplay own the rights to Fallout and canned the production of a third installment. I heard the creator of Fallout is working on another similar game though, under a new company.

But I completely agree, a new Fallout with some kind of online play would be awesome, too bad it will never happen. If it does it won't be by the original team, we'll probably get some rehashed shit like Fallout Tactics.

This is one of the concept art pictures from this new Flagship/NAMCO 'mystery' project I'm referring to:

This is a big deal, when you consider the significance of these two companies. I wish they'd just come out and say what type of game this is going to be. It's driving me crazy...

Actually I was able to find a couple more:

Edit - The pictures were much too large.

Ugh. I'm tired of popular images mixing Satanic symbols with Wiccan ones.

Satanic cults and wiccan cults are 100% identical so whats the problem?

Yes. A fallout MMORPG would definitely be cool. Best damn rpg I've ever played (except tactics:bos).

And yeah, the creator of fallout, I think his name is Brian Fargo , he's making a remake of the game called Wasteland which Fallout was acutally based on. Wasteland was a graphic/text rpg way back in the DOS days. You can get wasteland here.

VERY awesome.

Yeah, I have Wasteland. After hearing it was the predecessor to Fallout I downloaded it. Considering the two games are pretty much in the same universe, it hopefully won't be too far off from Fallout (though of course they would have to avoid possible legal problems). Fun fact: the NPC in the bar in Junktown is one of the rangers from Wasteland.

After Fallout 3 was cancelled and Black Isle was sacked, I was hoping that since Brian Fargo had been forced to change titles and change the setting slightly before when he made Fallout, that he would have the initiative to do it once more. Looks like he did. I hope it will be awesome.

Here's something I didn't notice the first time I looked ~ there's already fansites for this game, even though I don't think it will be out for a long time. How they manage to get information on such a secretive project is beyong me…
