That makes no sense. First, there are lots of game developers that don't compete with id Software, they can do whatever they want. They do that already. Second, the arms race won't end because one competitor quits. Third, times between engine releases are getting longer already. Five years since Q3A, plenty of time for the designers at id to innovate.

Yes, those screenshots are pretty nice looking, but the question at hand is: What the hell does this have to do with Doom 3 at all?
