Doom+Gauntlet Legacy+Zdoom=One cool idea.

So I've had this little idea flying my head all of the sudden because I just recently played Gauntlet legacy at an arcade. The way it could work is very simple.

1.6 areas= 6 levels per(41 levels, maybe even more to make the game great)Area.
2.Zdoom's teleport to level feature would make this very easy.
3.Scripting allows players to see features such as kills, rune collection, colonys destroyed, and other stats including leveling up.
4.No additional monsters or weapons is needed.
5.6 bosses=No problem.
Act1Boss=10 barons.
Act2Boss=CyberDemon
Act3BossFight=Combination of Barons, Cacodemons, Hell knights, and Archviles.
Act4Boss=20 Arachnotrons.
Act5BossFight=Combination of the strongest monsters including a few cybies.
Act6Boss=Three spidermasterminds, after all is done in every act, The final portal opens to the last boss fight.
Act7BossFight=Are you thinking about the IOS(Icon of Sin), Well sorry but that ain't it. This will use the most scripting and features zdoom is capable of. You are timed to kill every monster on the area in less than 30 minutes are all fall to a pit of death.

Levels1-6
Theme:Forest

Levels 7-12
Theme:Island/Ocean

Levels 13-19
Theme:Castles

Levels 20-26
Theme:Caverns
Levels 27-33

Theme:Prehistoric times

Levels 34-40
Theme:Hell

Level41:Final Hell.


Now before you say [/newproject] I'm just saying this is a idea and think it is actually a good one.

For levels: Their can be expansions and stuff.

4 players would also indicate either friendly marine "bot" things, or this is a multiplayer-type megawad.

Well thats a issue I'm still asking my self. In regular GL you could play it by yourself no problem. The game was mainly based on all 4 characthers. If I wanted to I'd get to work on it, but I don't know if it was just be another flamed project.

Sometime in the far off future when Strife support is complete in source ports I think it would be cool to make a Phantasy Star Online type MORPG (not quite MMORPG) based off it. A Gauntlet Doom thing sounds pretty similar.

Ok heres the scoop. Cut off the stupid themes thats not related to Doom that much.

Here's the deal, I'm releasing a 3 level demo(UnZdoomfied maps).
After this is done I will be turning this into a community grab project on certain limits and conditions.

1.You stick to your theme properly.
2.You don't give me a square room with one monster and ask will this do?
3.Stick to the size limit I want.
4.Two words:Detail, and Shadows.

If I can make the demo good, we can begin work on Gauntlet Doom.

The themes are how we stand to today:Tech, Hell, Marble, Castle, Medieval, etc.

Here's a screenshot from a Level that'll be in the demo.



Not a big deal but you can't say you didn't see anything!

Be sure to get some traffic cones in case the line of people waiting to make maps for you goes out the door.

It's more effective if we just don't reply to his threads at all, folks.

SR: You just arbitrarily pick and choose a bunch of crap to go here and there and apply no logical flow to anything at all EVER. "Hmm what should I tack on the end of this hallway? EUREKA! An acid pit! And I'll use ZDoom features to make the music change to D_BUNNY! I'M A FUCKING GENIUS!" I mean, Boris' random level idea generator could do better logical flow than you. Fuck, darknation's various short stories would have more Doom-related context than the random garbage you spew...

When I think of Gauntlet I also think of it being top-down. Gauntlet Doom should also be top-down.

When I think of Gauntlet, I always think about that one guy determined to go his own way, slowing down and sometimes even trapping the other three players. Or when that same idiot with 7000 health steals or shoots the last food in the map just as you and your 50 health are about to get it.

You also need the Gauntlet announcer, calling the action (I've never seen such bravery) and giving out advice (do not shoot the stimpacks!), otherwise....it's a big fraud!!!! That was all in the original Gauntlet; I don't know about Gauntlet Legacy.

Ah yeah the voices, that's my only problem. I can never make my voice sound supreme over the mic which comes to the voice acting part.

I was thinking of having sounds like: You are trigger happy, Your health is running low, Health is good, etc etc.

Did I also mention I'm planning on having Expansion packs including the special Community expansion pack.
