Spunkman Posted May 20, 2004 i remember quite a few years back, a guy named Cheezler ran a site called "the doom special effects shop". i remember him specifically doing a verticle lighting technique, and it looking decent. wanted to know if anyone knew how he acheived this (i'm assuming it's not just a custom texture or something). if anyone knows where to get the wad, or a tutorial on how to do it, i'd be appreciative. 0 Share this post Link to post
boris Posted May 20, 2004 There was a example wad for that in /newstuff a few week ago Screenshot The wad can be downloaded here. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted May 20, 2004 I was thinking about that, and it might be the effect he's looking for, but stopped short because he said "vertical," so I imagined a beam of light going from, let's say, a hole in the ceiling to the floor. 0 Share this post Link to post
Spunkman Posted May 20, 2004 what i meant by verticle was: there was a light source on the ground, next to a wall, and as the light moved up the wall, it gradually decreased in brightness. just mentioning it though, gave me an idea on how to do it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Spunkman Posted May 20, 2004 essentially, this: http://home.comcast.net/~spunkman/vertlight.jpg edit: i messed around with it a bit, and it looks passable at a distance. still not quite sure how cheezler did it though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Szymanski Posted May 20, 2004 I might be wrong but a more accurate effect is now possible with zdoom (light variation within a sector). Not sure how it works though. There's also the effect mention by Andy Olivera here: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20489&perpage=30&highlight=endgame&pagenumber=3 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted May 20, 2004 Spunkman said:"the doom special effects shop"http://web.archive.org/web/19981206143150/http://www.doomworld.com/dsfxs/ Not very informative though, since the "shots" section isn't archived. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fanatic Posted May 21, 2004 You can do that in EDGE and Legacy too using transparent 3d floors too. I did that in level 3 of QDOOM, where you go down into the lowest level of the South Western castle's lava room. The lava has a graduated light that uses I think 4 or 5 3d floors with less light as you go up. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dron Posted May 24, 2004 That effect appears a few times in PA:R Level 1 in that corridor with a view to a landing pad and level 3 in that big, dark room. 0 Share this post Link to post
