S1lent Posted May 29, 2004 Which annoys you the most? 1. Viruses 2. Worms 3. Adware 4. Popups Personally, I dislike Adware the most. It just seems that adware is trickier to get rid of when Ad-Aware won't work. 0 Share this post Link to post
Goat Posted May 29, 2004 adware. its the only thing i can contract now that i have google toolbar, and ive got 56k and im not an idiot so i dont get worms or viruses 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted May 29, 2004 What do Data Miners/Trackers file under? Defeinitely those, because they multiply and can embed themselves deep in your registry. Only problem is, the ad-buster progs don't necessarily kill the source, only the registry entries that(presumably) already sent vital information to their hosts. 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted May 29, 2004 Adware, then viruses, then worms, then popups 0 Share this post Link to post
Donce Posted May 29, 2004 I get neither of these but I'd say viruses are the worst cause they can result in data corruption/loss. 0 Share this post Link to post
Amaster Posted May 29, 2004 All of them. Adware I find the least annoying though provided that the author clearly states that their software is ad-supported. 0 Share this post Link to post
Epyo Posted May 29, 2004 Never had a virus or worm, and I don't get popups anymore with firefox, so I'll say adware/spyware. 0 Share this post Link to post
Goliath Posted May 29, 2004 I don't get popups anymore(stopzilla) and i haven't gottin a virus in a while so im going to say adware, but i haven't gottin that in a while either 0 Share this post Link to post
Terra-jin Posted May 29, 2004 Pop-ups annoy the most crap out of me. Nr 2 is whatever makes my system slower. Haven't had much experience with viruses or worms and such, except the 60-seconds download-thingy, for which I got PC-Cillin. Oh yeah, what exactly is the difference between adware and pop-ups? Isn't that bascially the same stuff? 0 Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted May 29, 2004 Viruses - No problems here. I just don't any strange emails. They're all filtered out anyway. Worms - Same as above. Adware - Also not a problem. I just use Netscape 4.72 with JavaScript turned off when looking around the internet (except Internet Explorer for certain forums). Popups - Google Toolbar or any other popup blocker takes care of these. Banner ads - Also blocked, heheh. Flash ads - Only annoying when using Internet Explorer. Netscape without JavaScript completely eliminates these. 0 Share this post Link to post
JamesEightBitStar Posted May 30, 2004 Viruses because they can f--- up your PC to the point where you have to totally wipe the HD. It happened to me TWICE (and no, I don't open strange E-mails... in fact they actually came in as temporary internet files, meaning I probably got them from a pop-up). Ad-Aware comes in second because they, too, can screw up your PC. In fact they're almost as bad as viruses. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted May 30, 2004 Viruses/Worms. I think I even have one (worm I think) right now that slows my system to death at random times and causes programs to sometimes refuse to open. Plus, my virus scanner says everything is fine. :P 0 Share this post Link to post
Job Posted May 30, 2004 It's a close tie between adware and popups. Though I'd imagine they're virtually one and the same in essence if nothing else. I've never had much of a problem with viruses or worms. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bashe Posted May 30, 2004 Adware then popups. The only thing I hate about some popup blockers is that they block windows you opened up. That's stupid. They should only block ones that come up automatiaclly. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chopkinsca Posted May 30, 2004 I've not had a single popup since using Firebird/Fox. Adware is only bothersome when it gets into the hundreds and starts messing with the function of your computer. In one week my sister managed to get 250 new adware objects put on the computer. Viruses would be the most annoying. Although they are more rare if you know what you are doing on the computer and have protective measures. Bashe said:Adware then popups. Most ad-blockers I've seen have a 'shift-click' type combination to bypass the filter. 0 Share this post Link to post
BlueSonnet Posted May 30, 2004 I don't care much for the actual annoyance level of these things. If it shouldn't be on my pc i get rid of it. Period. 0 Share this post Link to post

Nick Perrin Posted May 31, 2004 I never understood why people make viruses. I never will. It makes no sense at all to me. 0 Share this post Link to post
SunlapseVertigo Posted May 31, 2004 i hate those viruses that AVG detects, but doesn't do a damn thing about. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fletcher` Posted May 31, 2004 All are equally annoying and equally avoidable. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cyb Posted May 31, 2004 I have no issues with any of these, so I am most annoyed by ignorant/lazy sods who do dumb things like run unpatched browsers/e-mail clients or IE with the default security settings or click 'yes, install' for every frickin thing that pops up without reading. Seriously, virus/spyware/malware etc writers are jerks, but it takes two to tango, as they say. 0 Share this post Link to post
