17mb wad?

im thinking about creating a single wad that uses about 17mb memory.
this single wad uses the original sounds,music,textures.

i have got a few questions before i start with this project.

-will it work?.
-do i get any errors with saving,monsters,or anything else?.
-is it ever been done before?.

im thinking of making a very huge fortress with big towers,im planning to use all types of monsters in this wad.
i think it will take 2 or 3 monts building and testing before i release it.

Well then good luck making a 17MB single map. If I recall correctly, the whole of Eternal Doom (graphics and all) is just over 20MB IIRC.

You can't make a 17MB level. All the data structures overflow much earlier.


Deus Vult Map05 which exceeds the limits of all source ports except ZDoom is 3.9 MB and you can't go much further until some hard limit is reached.

Are you talking about just the map, or the map and the rest of the resources? This guy is planning to insert all original sounds and textures and other resources that will probably bring it up to "17 mb".

For just the level itself, one CAN actually make a level 2.5 times the size of Deus Vult Map05 - that's the size of one of my test levels, except that it will crash ZDOOM :)

It's hard to compare sizes here since 1 size includes the regular nodes/etc while the other is compressed (for now) and the blockmap is useless (size = 0). Anyway, it's around 5MB.

How can someone accurately be prognosticating to create a "17 MB wad" before it's done? The wad's main defining characteristic is its 17 MB size? 17mb.wad? Eh?

how big can i make one single level, before i run into problems?.

youre wright you can't say before you start how big your wad is gonna be,but you can make an rough estimation.
maybe im allready satisfied if i have a 10mb single level,i dunno.
as long as i have cool ideas i will keep working on it.

And Shaviro...82 Megs? Damn, XDoom is only 893k...
