The most important Game

Recommended Posts

What do you think is the most important game that contributed the most to the evolution of Gaming? (Though the DOOM series was important, it isn't an acceptable answer).

Toss-up between chess (or one of its early forms, which mutated in different ways as it spread out of India/Persia) and the Royal Game of Ur. Hard to say exactly how influential the latter was.

He didn't say so. Gaming has a long history, and computer games are just the most recent manifestation.

Ok, I'd like to clarify something since SOME of you didn't understand really. By "Gaming" I was referring to VIDEO GAMES (which is what most people think of when they say "gaming"!)

Judging from this and this, probably several centuries after.

The word "gaming" makes me think more of casinos than anything else.

Super Mario Bros. Without it, America's game industry would never have grown to such a height. Remember, it almost died around 1984.

Yes, let's all thank Atari for that. ET will always be the biggest video game mistake of all time.

No, somehow I think Custer's Revenge is. Not only is it bad... but incredibly offensive too.

OK... Most places where you might look up the word "gaming" (such as this) refer to gambling in the primary definition. :p

S1lent: Did you suddenly change the point of this topic? I thought were were talking about the most important game to contribute to gaming's evolution...my point fits, because if the industry DIED (hence the fate would be without Mario Bros) then gaming would have deevolved...not sure about the rest of these replies, but I'm sure some of them fit.

This is a ridiculous question because video games have not been made better. They've just been made more.

I'd agree Chess, in general.

In the computer games' department; Pong, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and DOOM.

WTF are you talking about? Seriously - I wouldn't even be considered a DOOM fanboy by most people and it's OBVIOUS that DOOM contributed IMMENSELY to the evolution of games.

That is absolutely absurd, as it is currently written.

IMO.

You know he's only trolling.

And anyway, I'd have to say Pong.
