S1lent Posted June 4, 2004 What do you think is the most important game that contributed the most to the evolution of Gaming? (Though the DOOM series was important, it isn't an acceptable answer). 0 Share this post Link to post
Sephiroth Posted June 4, 2004 if you are talking FPS's then yes doom was imporatant. however gameing as a total. dig deeper pong, one of the first games made. no one single game is the most important 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted June 4, 2004 Toss-up between chess (or one of its early forms, which mutated in different ways as it spread out of India/Persia) and the Royal Game of Ur. Hard to say exactly how influential the latter was. 0 Share this post Link to post
Darkman 4 Posted June 4, 2004 I believe he's talking about video games. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted June 4, 2004 He didn't say so. Gaming has a long history, and computer games are just the most recent manifestation. 0 Share this post Link to post

S1lent Posted June 4, 2004 Ok, I'd like to clarify something since SOME of you didn't understand really. By "Gaming" I was referring to VIDEO GAMES (which is what most people think of when they say "gaming"!) 0 Share this post Link to post

wildweasel Posted June 4, 2004 Super Mario Bros. Without it, America's game industry would never have grown to such a height. Remember, it almost died around 1984. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted June 4, 2004 Yes, let's all thank Atari for that. ET will always be the biggest video game mistake of all time. 0 Share this post Link to post

S1lent Posted June 4, 2004 Grazza let me stress the word "Most." But I know what your saying. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted June 4, 2004 OK... Most places where you might look up the word "gaming" (such as this) refer to gambling in the primary definition. :p 0 Share this post Link to post
Stealthy Ivan Posted June 5, 2004 Frogger!!! Pong!!! Space Invaders!!! Played on a 8086... Nuff said... 0 Share this post Link to post
S1lent Posted June 5, 2004 How did any of these games contribute to making video games better? 0 Share this post Link to post
wildweasel Posted June 5, 2004 S1lent: Did you suddenly change the point of this topic? I thought were were talking about the most important game to contribute to gaming's evolution...my point fits, because if the industry DIED (hence the fate would be without Mario Bros) then gaming would have deevolved...not sure about the rest of these replies, but I'm sure some of them fit. 0 Share this post Link to post
AndrewB Posted June 5, 2004 This is a ridiculous question because video games have not been made better. They've just been made more. 0 Share this post Link to post

myk Posted June 5, 2004 I'd agree Chess, in general. In the computer games' department; Pong, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and DOOM. 0 Share this post Link to post

Seriously - I wouldn't even be considered a DOOM fanboy by most people and it's OBVIOUS that DOOM contributed IMMENSELY to the evolution of games. That is absolutely absurd, as it is currently written. IMO. 0 Share this post Link to post
