6% loss due to it not matching up with the editors humor. Who cares,

Exactly, it's not supposed to be a comedy it's a horror game.

But still, I think the humor might appeal to us, the persistent Doom fans. That reviewer probably just doesn't have the ability to understand how the community will feel about this game, once I'm finally playing it I'll laugh at anything!

What for, are sounds supercharged nowadays compared to the antiquated sounds of yesteryear?

Well I was actually talking about my computer in general. I really could care less about upgrading my sound card, as the one I have works perfectly fine. I seriously doubt there's any major differences between an SB-Live! card and an Audigy, that would make me want to buy a new one (especially since I don't even have surround sound or anything like that).

P4 1.7 Gig CPU
256 MB Ram
Geforce 2 Pro
250 Watt PS

Can i run doom 3 at least half-decently and if not, would it be better to upgrade or to invest in a new system (around 2000-2500 $$$)

hmmm...just buy a new and cheap board + cpu (athlon64 2800+, 3000+), 350watt ps, ram (1gb) and a ati 9800pro...you'll get that for around 700$. look around at ebay for cheap parts.
I think such a system will handle d3 quite good.

I've just ordered a board + cpu and ram yesterday.

Id gave me 3 weeks to setup my system for d3...thank you :)

This is turning into a computer specs thread :/

Anyway, about the 20 hour gameplay bit. Someone said that it would take longer if you played it on a higher difficulty instead of the pussy level the reviewer probably played it on. Think about it though, the game is meant to scare. If you play it on a higher difficulty all you're doing is making sure you die more.

Then you have to go through all the "scary" parts over and over. Kinda kills the scare factor dontcha think? The only thing I can think of that would help was an interview I read with JC where he talked about the possibility of random monster placement. That would maybe make it more tolerable. Of course some of the scripted events that included monsters would remain the same but a random monster appearing now and then sure would add to the replayability of the game.

I'll have to wait and see. Pretty sure the game's still gonna rock though.

A phrase from the 1920's that meant "really cool" or "really hot" if I remember my history class correctly.

ROTFLMAO at people taking Pc Gamer seriously, that magazine totally sucks and has has been that way ever since the old editor left.

In the old era (95-2001) they were the 2nd best games magazine (computer games stategy plus was always the most intelignet and reliable) I still have the issues where Tomb Raider got 95%, Civillization 2 got 97% and Alpha Centauri got 98%, but that means absolutley nothing, they were a totally different magazine back then.

I got two P4 HT's for this. my wallet is gone. but I'm ready, that's all that matters. My friend thinks it's Luigi's mansion with guns... how stupid can one be?

The Septemer issue thing seems far fetched. As for when it does come out, I'll still be here in London on placement, and finish a month later with a big pile of cash for some upgrades :-D

Hmm, I finally found the Pcgamer scans on the web.
Well, what the hell is the caco supposed to be ?
I remember it was mentioned that its in that review. Are people talking about the small pic in the upper right of the second page ?
I am a bit dissapointed that it seems that the original "ultra violence" (difficulty 4) is now called "marine". Well, at least "Nightmare" will be there.
I like the fact that its possible to shoot rockets in air.
Overall... for all of you that haven't seen the pcgamer scans, you don't miss anything OMFG-like.
If you've watched the g4tech clip you've seen enough.

Want the Radeon9800 but as you know, what you want and can afford are two seperate things. I was consulting a guy at BestBuy today and he said that a Radeon9200 would run it just fine, so that's what I'm going to try to get.

Was going to post those the first time around but didn't.

Geforce 6800
Pros
- Better drivers (usually)
- Currently in a lot of games is that tiny bit faster, although not in farcry which has NVIDIA plastered all over it.
- Half decent Linux support.
- SLI!!!

Cons
- They have played silly games with benchmarks and Image quality in the past.
- Has Hefty power requirements, 2 molex connectors + 400 watt powersupply, I think they actually recommend a 480.
- Uses up a PCI slot cuz it's so fucking big, don't think the ATI X800 does.

Ati X800 PRO
- Ati are generally a bit friendlier and when the community doesn't like something in there drivers they are far more willing to change them.
- The card doesn't need it's own power plant.
- Faster in a few serious games, has the support of most of the major online hardware sites.

Cons
- Drivers can be fairly dodgy, crap Linux support.
- Can't think of anything else that is bad about the current lineup of cards.

I think that's it, if anyone would like to add something....well add it.

That's not a con unless you really need that slot. I only use two PCI slots myself.
