Arioch Posted August 18, 2004 We were informed of a new project that has sprung up recently to re-create the entirety of the first episode of the original Doom in the Doom 3 engine. This Classic Doom for Doom 3 project will feature the original levels touched up with Doom 3 prefabs as well as gameplay adjustments that are aimed to provide an experience somewhat more alike to the originals by tuning weapons, monsters, movement, etc. Screenshots for an early version of the E1M1 replacement are available for your perusal. 0 Share this post Link to post

Dron Posted August 18, 2004 It looks cool but i'd rather see episode 2 or 3 recreated in doom3. It's good to see that they aren't stealing the original doom textures like some other projects are. 0 Share this post Link to post
DarkSoul Posted August 18, 2004 I still rather see Episode 4 remade, but I guess that's not going to happen for a while :( 0 Share this post Link to post
Relica Religia Posted August 18, 2004 This is nifty. If they're going to start somewhere, why not start at the very beginning? :P 0 Share this post Link to post
Jonathan Posted August 19, 2004 I'd rather PREFABs, because the original Doom PREFABS was PREFABS, much more than PREFABS. Most PREFABS PREFABS, all PREFABS like a PREFABS PREFABS PREBABS. Of course it's all PREFABS. 0 Share this post Link to post
gatewatcher Posted August 19, 2004 Pretty good looking, they have a way to go though. But yeah, I'm impressed so far. 0 Share this post Link to post
wildweasel Posted August 19, 2004 It looks good so far. I'd go out and buy Doom 3 to play this, except my system can't run it because I'm on Win98 still. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dittohead Posted August 19, 2004 wow, a remake that doesn't look like complete crap. I might have to keep my eye on this one. 0 Share this post Link to post
mystery8 Posted August 19, 2004 Very nice. Was hoping something like this would come along. 0 Share this post Link to post
Intel17 Posted August 19, 2004 I've seen better remakes of this map for UT2k4... Why couldn't they have made textures that resembled the originals? 0 Share this post Link to post
Intel17 Posted August 19, 2004 I hate the dull grey theme with all these remakes. grr... 0 Share this post Link to post
Shaikoten Posted August 19, 2004 The quality really varies on this thing. Also, it's much easier to see some of the game's graphical flaws with such high light intensity. I don't know what quality this guy's playing his Doom 3 at, but I've never seen it look THIS bad. 0 Share this post Link to post
Epyo Posted August 19, 2004 I haven't actually looked at the map in the editor, but it doesn't seem he is using area culling... For a map so small, I was getting terrible fps because of this. Or if I'm wrong, make fun of me. 0 Share this post Link to post

From the looks of it, I am assuming this guy doesn't know how to fix leaks.. 0 Share this post Link to post
SulfurOccult Posted August 19, 2004 thats something most Quake 3 map tutorails tell the n00bs to do, because it is easier then teaching them how to map the right way. 0 Share this post Link to post
Laguna Posted August 19, 2004 The good lord made pointfiles for a reason, I guess. 0 Share this post Link to post
Terra-jin Posted August 19, 2004 That's very interesting! I'd love to see the true DOOMy gameplay in DOOM 3. It should be possible to attune the monsters and weapons to create DOOM's gameplay style. 0 Share this post Link to post
CapNapalm Posted August 19, 2004 I had my doubts at first, but this actually looks pretty cool. 0 Share this post Link to post
gemini09 Posted August 19, 2004 I think it looks like crap. Still nice to see it be done though... Anyone heard of that F.E.A.R. game? Looks and sounds very nice... 0 Share this post Link to post
niatsnie Posted August 19, 2004 I do like it myself, props to the guys doing it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. NobodX Posted August 19, 2004 It look a bit bland, but apart from that, it's good. Let's just hope ID don't pull the plug on that one... 0 Share this post Link to post

Fredrik Posted August 20, 2004 I agree that it looks like crap. Not to offend the authors, but this isn't even remotely up to par with the design of either of Doom or Doom 3. 0 Share this post Link to post
kristus Posted August 20, 2004 I downloaded and played it. Not very impressive. 0 Share this post Link to post
