Use Posted August 27, 2004 Bloodshedder said:I can't imagine anyone being dumb enough to pronounce it any way other than option 1. You must not get out much. The words I hear butchered by customers at my store is quite staggering. The top few are: Associate. No one can say this right in the entire state but me. Ask. Yup, three letters, but it always comes out like 'axe'. Escape. There is no X in escape, why do you pronounce it as if it has one? Our. Another seemingly simple word, always mangled into 'are'. The list could go on forever ;( I'm sure it's all because common people simply don't read. 0 Share this post Link to post

The #2 on my list is the word "question." About 40-60% of people seem to pronounce it KWESH-tin instead of KWES-chin. #1 would be "often," where it's incorrectly pronounced "OFF-tin" about 70% of the time. 0 Share this post Link to post

Scuba Steve Posted August 28, 2004 Who cares, different dialects pronounce words differently. As long as you know what word they're trying to say, it doesn't really matter. Every day life isn't one big grammar test. 0 Share this post Link to post
