idmap01 is a famous deathmatch map by American McGee.
Tim Willits designed the Raven series (a bunch of not really good maps that somehow were aclaimed).

Romero once said that he planned to make a 10 levels episode for DOOM 2, but he finally abandoned the idea.

I'd like to see a map made by John Carmack, that would be interesting.

Try "Knee Deep In ZDoom" once it's released. It is a ZDoom Community episode updating E1 (The original maps are a base) with ZDoom features in it. However, mapping only officially started today and it is being built over 3 weeks.

EDIT: Tormentor667, leader of the project, has done his part for E1M8.
Monster/item placement isn't complete but it giveas you an
idea of what to expect. It is DooM 2 MAP08

This is the resource WAD for KDIZD: Load this with E1M8Week1.WAD.

And if you want to keep track of the project, keep up to date with this thread of the ZDoom forums.

Uh, this thread is about maps designed by the Doom map designers.

Romero is planning to release his Hyperspace Delivery Boy mod for Doom 3 any day now.

I heard something about that back in 1999. when it was released on tv, and called Futurama.
