The latest fad in Doom modding is making mini-games using ZDoom's ACS engine. Ever wanted to play classics like Pong, Pac-Man, Tetris, and Arkanoid in Doom? Here's your chance!

It all began when Linguica announced his version of Tetris in our forums and on the ZDoom forums. Crazy limey Jonathan Rimmer quickly countered with Pac-Man. Everyone's favorite poster child of Tourette's Syndrome, Isle, has created an excellent ACS script of Pong (link not available), and Grubber on the ZDoom forums today released Arkanoid.

So what's next in our brave new wacky world of ACS minigames? Alien Invaders? Pinball? Casino games? Or is someone even now preparing the ultimate in game recreations? (You know who you are!)

It began long before that... Ling started the movement with his Doom Racer arcade game.

I haven't had a chance to check out these games yet, so I don't know if this is in the same vein, but here's what I'll be releasing sometime in the next couple of weeks.

(yes I know its a bitmap, but it's the only picture i currently have uploaded).

Not quite the same vein, but that's cool nonetheless. These are ACS-based games essentially.

It depends on if you like classic games or not. They're all more or less 100% accurate to their originals in terms of gameplay (PacMan is kinda slow though).

I would say Tetris is a bit away from 100% accurate... A lot of the pieces rotate incorrectly, you can't slide a piece sideways right when it lands, and there's no instant-down key.

Zdoom Arkanoid is really cool. Reminds me of the countless hourse I spent with the original long long time ago.
But that's no surprise-Grubber is a genius!

Well if you wanted to cast the net that wide, also remember the Cyberdemon Minesweeper.

But clearly we're talking about a different sort of game remake.

FIghting games. Those are the kind Ive always wated to see. And once I've seen some code to figure out how people are doing these, I'm movng on to try remaking some fighting game code I did in QBasic.

By the way, Doom Racer looked messy but it worked. MAybe revision 64 will have some new texture movements that will allow a little better setting of textures (more like real sprites)? Well, either that or someone's already done it with other methods...
