just a simple question that maybe someone can help me. if you buy the software, can you install it on two separate computers?

Nobody will keep you from doing it but many licenses don't allow it and if there is some copy protection involved you won't be able to use it on more than one system simultaneously anyway.

Since you're asking in the Classic Doom questions forum, I assume you're asking about buying Ultimate Doom, Doom II or Final Doom from the id Store.

In this case, there is nothing stopping you from making backup copies of the software (there is no copy protection of any kind) - in fact, id strongly recommends backing up the file after you download it.

Of course, you are not allowed to make copies for other people.
