Interesting concept, face on the gored guy looks a bit odd. 0 Share this post Link to post

Should have done him with a gaping mouth, or look of pure fear shown in dsm's stories (this is the guy getting his spine ripped out yes?) Well i'll give the background some thought, maybe some clouds and lightning. 0 Share this post Link to post

True, but it's easy to fuck up a background and...let's face it, a bad background does detract from an otherwise good image. 0 Share this post Link to post
kristus Posted October 8, 2004 So. In other words. Learn to draw backgrounds? Intresting. 0 Share this post Link to post

Coopersville Posted October 8, 2004 Everyone so hates Inuyasha... A fanboy would say that such a blow wouldn't kill Inuyasha anyway, and considering the bend in his spine, his neck wouldn't be arched back. Otherwise, sexy pic there; 'ever do any Yoai, or consider it? 0 Share this post Link to post
DOOM Anomaly Posted October 8, 2004 !?!??!? First of all, such a guy would never be able to beat Inu-Yasha. And second of all a mere punch like that wouldn't do anything near like that to him. Double-You-Tee-Eff-Questionmark 0 Share this post Link to post

darknation Posted October 9, 2004 I'm going to rant here, and it's nothing (much) against blue sonnet personally. People need to learn to draw realistically before they even THINK of stylizing. I'm sick to death of legions of anime fanboys churning out boatloads of poorly structured crap with no artistic merrit. Actually, people jumping on the Japanese-Style bandwagon annoy me for other reasons. Anime bores me, the artform probably reached its peak during the late 80's and people drawing in this style en-masse are doing nothing to stem the beating that the poor dead horse is getting. I'm far more impressed by an original idea than by a carbon copy of a masterpiece. 0 Share this post Link to post
BlueSonnet Posted October 9, 2004 Its kinda a mixed bag for me. On one level i'm like "Hey i'm an artist! I'll draw what i want." but on another level i can agree. I won't deny that i've seen crappy interpretations of the anime artstyle in my time, and i don't deny i get a bit pissed when i see it get away with being called "good work". I'm also aware of the dangers of recycling a style and trying to have a different interpretation with it. Some of it makes me puke. Does anyone know of the comic they did for the game chaos league? Now that was a horrible-looking comic. It's a good representation of the danger of just jumping ahead without understanding the essence of what they're trying to interpret. But i'm not kissing up though. On the other hand i can argue that all that stuff mentioned above is what being an artist is all about. Quite a few famous artists in history have done something similar to taking a foreign artstyle and making something of their own out of it (i can go on but i won't). As my art teachers keep telling us at college, "We progress through questioning, not just through receiving answers". Personnally i think there's good and bad examples. I mean, don't get me wrong. I don't assume i'm a god at what i do nor do i assume that my work is something super fresh. But at the end of the day, if i never had some inspiration, whatever it might be, to start off with, my progression in skill wouldn't have gone any further than drawing stickmen. Until the day i start a revolution in art or whatever fate has in store, i'll always keep practising with what i've got. I say let us have our fun while it lasts. darknation said:People need to learn to draw realistically before they even THINK of stylizing. I agree here. Perfect a realisticly-drawn figure and you could probably perfect it in any other way. Other than that i think the need to draw something more real-looking is right round the corner. The pendalum swings in both directions for me as far as hobbies go. Edit: I'm taking some of this back. I do what i want. 0 Share this post Link to post
darknation Posted October 9, 2004 I think what I'm trying to say is you should be able to look at an image and tell instantly who drew it. (assuming you are familiar with the guy's work, obviously) Innovation and originality are everything. And that's why 99% of everything I see fails it. 0 Share this post Link to post

I've been wanting to say this very thing for years.. maybe I'm being to polite... maybe I should become grumpy and abrasive as well. ;) 0 Share this post Link to post
Spike Posted October 9, 2004 You should. That grumpy thing is infectious. The same goes for written work - most of what i've read is absolute shite (and that includes some of mine). 0 Share this post Link to post
