New SP map and water tutorial

Recommended Posts

http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetdoom/files/maps/obihb_map01.zip

Adds the shambler from Quake1, and does it quite sexy too. And the map itself ain't too shabby :P

And yes, this was made before the SDK, those silly DEF files allow for much more than crappy flashlight mods it seems, I suggest you check out the included def files. =D

Also, heres a Water in doom3 tutorial/sample map

http://doom3.filefront.com/file/Water_Source;31356

Obviously physics need to be added and shit, but with the SDK out that should be no problem. The effect texture wise looks pretty swanky too. Sounds and shit need to be added somehow for jumping in water, losing air breathing, whatever. Check it out mappers.

(Why the fuck didn't ID add water capability in the first place? Were they trying to be THAT true to the original doom? :P )

Anyways, I know you could easily find this crap on other sites but I wanted to give the maps + mods forum a kick in the ass, so, enjoy ffs.

(Anyone know whatever happened to that Vehicle demonstration map that was supposed to come with the sdk? Thats the only reason I downloaded it =/ )

Isn't that a copyright infringement? Afaik, you're not allowed to recreate characters from previous Id games in your mods (weapons, however, are a different issue though).

Why's that? it's not like he's selling it

If it was, it wouldn't end up on fileplanet..

But imo, using an ID character from a ID game for an ID game isn't harming anyone. As long no profit is involved.

Also, edited the thread title so that it will make more sense :\

I should like to point out that the Doom 3 Shambler looks absolutely NOTHING like the Quake Shambler, really. It attacks in the same manner (with the lightning thing) and it's a big brute, but other that, heck, I probably wouldn't have recognized it if the author had not pointed it out. By the way, that map totally rocks! Very fun!

I don't see how they would distinguish between weapons and any other media from a previous game.

Then explain to me why they couldn't just add BJ Blazcowicz to Generations Arena - BJ is a character from an Id game and Q3A is an Id game, so by your logic, they could've made a model that was faithful to Wolf3d/RtCW BJ and even called him BJ Blazcowicz.

Instead, they had to 'invent' a character called Sergeant William Blaze and give him only a vague resemblence to a certain redheaded Nazi ass-kicker.

Hmm, big white brute with three huge claw fingers as hands, no eyes and a big mouth with lots of teeth - looks straight out of Quake 1, except that the Quake 1 Shambler was butt-ugly. Plus, it's even named "Shambler" - a name that Id came up with and that I'd imagine they could claim ownership on.

But heck, those copyright infringement rules are incredibly complex, so it's easy to get confused if you ask me.
