Slow Performance

I just got Doom 3, and I'm well into it. The only problem is in some areas there is bad performance. Some areas, even busy areas(monsters + machinary grapfics), work perfectly, but alot of the time movement is quite jerky.

My hard drive is fragmented like shrapnel but defrag can't fix parts of it. I tried moving the pk files but when I did Doom 3 wouldn't work. Can any body help me out here?

Um, how do I find that?

Go to the Start Menu, then Control Panel, and double-click 'System'.
Should be on the 'General' tab.

Video card info would be handy too ('System, 'Hardware' tab, 'Device Manager', then expand 'Display Adapters').

I might have done this wrong. I heard some of you managed to pull this off, what did you do?

well you do have an older card.

i even have moments of lag with a radeon 9600XT. so it's little mystery why you got lag. however everything else looks good
