Udderdude Posted October 30, 2004 Hordes of Chaos 4 is finished after just 2 1/2 weeks of work. I've uploaded it for next week's newstuff, you can grab it here too : http://rydia.net/udder/!crap/hoc4.zip http://rydia.net/udder/!crap/hoc4-1.png Map 01 : Painkiller Based on Vermil's maps Another Vermil map. Pretty similar to Monster Mash, with alot of wide-open battles. This one has ALOT of monsters. http://rydia.net/udder/!crap/hoc4-2.png Map 02 : Tomb Of Naughtyness Based on Crimson Tomb by me A DOOM conversion map. Has alot of cramped spaces. Not a whole lot of monsters, but it's still tough. http://rydia.net/udder/!crap/hoc4-3.png Map 03 : The Black Bog Based on Vermil's maps This map is the biggest out of all the HOC maps. It was transformed from a cave-like area into a giant swamp. It's very nasty looking .. you'll feel like taking a shower after playing this one :P http://rydia.net/udder/!crap/hoc4-4.png Map 04 : Crypt Of Crispy Critters Based on VOL R2 by me Another DOOM conversion map. Not a ton of monsters, but is still challenging. http://rydia.net/udder/!crap/hoc4-5.png Map 05 : D'Sparil's Tower Based on Tower of Pain by me Yes, it's the Tower of Pain map I released several months ago. It was either this or some lump of crap from Dark Heretic - I ran out of good maps to use from that after HOC 2 :P The final battle is all new, though. 0 Share this post Link to post

Oh and BTW-how many HOC's are You planning? 7? :) HOC has always used remade and converted maps. Vermil's are great but I only have 1 left I haven't used after this, and it's not as good as his others. And I don't have any more doom maps to convert. I'd have to make new maps from scratch .. noooo :O This is probabally the last one. I have no new material to use after this, unless someone donates some new stuff. If anyone else wants to donate their maps, go ahead. 0 Share this post Link to post

The Ultimate DooMer Posted November 11, 2004 How about combining all of them to form a megawad? (using mapinfo to get around the episode limits) 0 Share this post Link to post
Arielus Posted November 12, 2004 The Ultimate DooMer said:How about combining all of them to form a megawad? (using mapinfo to get around the episode limits) That does sound like a very good idea to me. All the 20 maps that compose the 'Hordes of Chaos' series are high quality, and since Heretic mods with that amount of maps are scarce, I believe it'd be a good move to compile these into something of that characteristics. I'd like that. Ariel. PS: Kinda off topic... Does anyone know whether somebody is working on a Hexen megawad? I've searched quite a bit yet haven't found anything of the characteristics of, say, 'DeathKings of the Dark Citadel', for instance. Given there are so many big projects for the DOOM series, I don't know, it feels perhaps a little strange that during the time Hexen has been out, nobody -at least according to my research- has released something like that. I'm not comparing both games, no, I like DOOM above anything, but it's simply that Hexen is a great game in my opinion, and it's pretty popular, so I was wondering, that's all... Anybody knows? 0 Share this post Link to post

Ichor is working on a JHexen one right now (check it out) with all kinds of cool stuff, and I'll be working on a ZHexen one next year, with all kinds of different cool stuff. 0 Share this post Link to post
NiGHTMARE Posted November 12, 2004 Not just a Megawad, but a Partial Conversion (though they call it a Total Conversion) - http://www.korax-heritage.com/. They've also got a completed gameplay mod available for download. /waits for inevitable cries of "ah crap! It's for Vavoom"... 0 Share this post Link to post
Udderdude Posted November 12, 2004 The Ultimate DooMer said:How about combining all of them to form a megawad? (using mapinfo to get around the episode limits) I've thought of doing this myself, before. The biggest problem here is texture usage between the maps. I'd def. have to make some new textures instead of just replacing the ones from Heretic I don't need. Also, I'd only be able to keep one of the ending screens, or make a new one. This is tough for me. I might make an attempt at adding some sort of humorous story, as well. I'm not sure how that would work out. If I did this, I'd probabally re-arrange the levels as well. 0 Share this post Link to post

(version is included in the zip) 0 Share this post Link to post
Graf Zahl Posted November 12, 2004 Ever heard of texture renaming tools? With those it shouldn't be too hard to rename the conflicting textures. Since almost all of your textures are single patch anyway you should add them in the TX_START/TX_END namespace which would avoid messing around with the TEXTUREx definition lumps. As for the different end pics, AFAIK ZDoom supports an 'endpic' property in its MAPINFO lump to show any pic you like. 0 Share this post Link to post
