v1.1 patch destroyed Doom3?

After downloading and installing the v1.1 patch for Doom3, I get an initialization error and the game forces me to quit before it gets past the dialogue menu. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Also, why did the patch cripple the game? That's pretty stupid.

I never had any problems when installing the patch, I could assume that it wasn't installed correctly, but it could be anything. Like I said in editing, try installing all of your non-pk4 files into your doom3 folder and then re-install the patch..
