DOOM Awards 2004

Recommended Posts

First of all, this is no where near copy of DoomWorld's best 100 WADs of all time. This is the DOOM (WAD) Awards for 2004. I really hope that Doomworld.com takes this as a official poll as of yeras to come, since us original Doom fans, believe it or not, STILL exists...but Doom III can of course be included.

The following categories are mine, if you manage to come up with some other, I'd be glad only, so please....

DOOM AWARDS FOR 2004:

BEST SINGLE-PLAYER WAD OF 2004
BEST DEATHMATCH WAD OF 2004
WORST WAD OF 2004
BEST WEAPON-ADD ON OF 2004
BEST MONSTER ADD-ON OF 2004
BEST GRAPHICS OF 2004
BEST GAMEPLAY OF 2004
BEST AUTHOR(S) OF 2004

and I though, based on these, we could ultimately vote on

THE BEST DOOM (I/II) WAD OF 2004!

If someone wants to count my humble voice, it's without a doubt Claustrophobia!

Why not vote for both best single-level wad and best megawad/episode, or for best level in addition to best wad, as a single-level wad and a megawad are two very different things, and hard to compare?

Good point, larsboy, that's why I said, "if you manage to come up with something else"... so BEST MEGAWAD OF 2004 shall be also included, and thus I'd vote VILE FLESH for sure!

Gee, like ZDoom much?

So what? Is it my fault that there hasn't been much vanilla compatible stuff I liked?

The closest ones this year were Bloodrust and New World 1+2 but IMO they simply cannot compete with the ones I mentioned.

Thankfully this isn't 'zdoom awards 2004'.

1 Action DooM
2 I've got better DM levels sitting on my pc then most of whats been released.. i'll have to upload =)
3 DRE, everyone agrees on this =)
4 have to say Doom 3 in Doom 2, cause it is actually balanced
5 Doom 3 in Doom 2 =).. really need to think of a name for that mod
6 hmm.. I'd probably say RTC again, as so much time and detail must have gone into all those patches made.
7 RTC
8 hmm.. undecided

Also, should add best Weapon Designer, best graphic designer etc.

Maybe if you include some obscure crap in your selection. The problem with DRE wasn't that it just had bad levels. It was much more: The levels were bad at worst and on the low end of mediocre at best, all the enemies were quite unbalanced, the weapons sucked, the music was ripped, it was no fun to play and the whole thing was just one big disaster. It's this massive combinations of incompetence and ignorance that will forever place this wad on one of the top spots of most infamous WADs ever.

Hey, what about a Best Co-op WAD of 2004 award?

Deus Vult. If you play it on medium with 2 players, its pretty fun. 3 or more is a good challenge for hard.

BEST SINGLE-PLAYER WAD OF 2004
RTC-3057

BEST DEATHMATCH WAD OF 2004
I don't play Deathmatch

WORST WAD OF 2004
Fortunatly, I don't know, this year I didn' hated any wad. May be that "Resident Evil mod" a really bunch of randomaly ripped and sucked graphics that claims to use graphics made by the authors of Resident Evil. DRE is a piece of art if you compare both.

BEST WEAPON-ADD ON OF 2004
DOOM 3 in DOOM 2 (That's not surprising from me)

BEST MONSTER ADD-ON OF 2004
DOOM 3 in DOOM 2(not only the sprites I'm working on, but also the behavior Dartmerc is adding to them)

BEST GRAPHICS OF 2004
RTC-3057 and Action DOOM

BEST GAMEPLAY OF 2004
RTC-3057 and DOOM 3 in DOOM 2

BEST AUTHOR(S) OF 2004
Shaviro, DSM, Scuba Steve and KRoNoS

I'm no wad maker, I merely helped out - I'd hardly call myself an author, but thanks for the mention :-P
