tommyj27 Posted January 3, 2005 i finally got doom 3 to _start_ on my slackware 10 box, running on an Athlon XP 1600+ @1526Mhz, 768M Ram, ATI radeon 8500 64mb. The game starts and after about a minute it makes it to the cd-key screen. At first I thought the mouse & keyboard weren't working, but they are working, just so slowly that they appear not to be. I literally wait 1 minute after hitting a key or moving the mouse before the action actually happens. Is this a known issue or is there some sort of way to fix it? I've attached a copy of the doom3 log and the output from glxinfo, if there is anything else that would be helpful let me know. Amaster Posted January 3, 2005 To be honest I dont know a lot about linux. I still havent gotten my ATI card fully functioning in debian. But from what little information I can find, there are some possible answers: 1) Previous ATI linux drivers DID have known issues with doom3. The latest driver claims to fix these. 2) Some benchmarks have shown that doom3 performs poorly on an ATI card when compared to a windows system of the same specs. I have the 9600XT and it has very poor preformance in linux, even with new drivers. games like ET run terribly compared to how they ran on the geforce 4MX-440. personaly stick to windows for gaming and ATI cards. next time you update get an nvidia if you plan on playing games in linux. ATI is extreamly difficult to get working in linux. i have yet to try doom3 on my linux box, mainly due to the fact i know it will have poor preformance. also it could depend on what distro you use. i use SUSe, which was a pain in the ass. mandrake was a bit better for getting ATI to work. i hear FC is also a real pain in the ass. 0 Share this post Link to post
