Don't book a vacation in Iran during June

Recommended Posts

Three carrier battle groups are converging on the Persian Gulf. The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson has departed Singapore and is currently crossing the Indian Ocean, en route to the Middle East. The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is also on the move, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, reportedly headed toward the Mediterranean.

Reports are also circulating that the U.S. Navy has dispatched ships containing nuclear armaments to reinforce the battle groups.

Heh, my friend's dad was the Master Chief on the Carl Vinson back in the day.

Reports from where, or who? Alex Jones?

What about Alex Jones? I'm actually curious because I've read some pretty radical stuff from his website but I don't know anything about how much substance or integrity it has.

How about don't book a vacation in the Middle East ever. Since the West has entirely pissed them off way too much.

He is a fearmongering doomsayer conspiracy fuck. And not even in a typical libral "lolz, bush iz dumb" way either...but a "bush is puppeted by the devil worshiping global elite illuminati and we should prepare for a one world government and the ensuing police state"

If you ever get a chance, watch one of his videos, like "911: the road to tyranny". I'm sure you could find a torrent somewhere. It's genius work, it'll make you laugh and cry. Mostly because he appears dead serious about what he talks about.

The first half of "911: the road to tyranny" was actually very believable.

In the second half however Alex describs how the arabs, europians, environmentalists, democrats, socialists, republicans and ofcourse the illiminati are all working together in one diabolical masterplan to literally enslave the American population. "Only the patriotic christian American gun owner can save the world!"

Jeez, and I thought the whole "Axis of Evil" conspiracy theory was absurd...

If you think the US isn't going to attack Iran eventually for some completely made-up BS reason, you are living in a fantasy world. We took over Iraq to use it as a launch platform for forays into Iran and Syria, clearly. Taking those two will cut the Arab world in half and render them completely subject to American imperialism.

Hey, nobody mentioned the stealth draft yet. You might as well have added it here!

There aren't anywhere near enough soldiers to occupy both Iraq and Iran, nevermind Syria as well.

Go go draft! :P

heh, they'd have a fun time getting me. I'm routing for the people of the Middle East. Though I wish they'd alter their strategy somewhat. I hate seeing people die on either side, but I tend to side with the invaded to the invaders.

Or piss them off so much that they develop solidarity and extract some hideous revenge on us. o_o

Stealth draft? Um, explain?

I think a "stealth draft" is more or less re-recruiting members of the armed services who have all retired and put in their required time.

Yeah, like the cases of 80 year old vets being called back into the military. They get you once, they have you for life!

Isn't that essentially treason?

So you'll live with the invaders but cheer for the invaded? Why don't you just move there already?

I've been following the news on this whole thing for a short while now. Everything points to there being no really attractive military options for the US. If they strike by air, Iran may retaliate against Israel with missle strikes (and there goes the whole middle-east peace thing). And of course you can assume that they would attack troops in Iraq. Which means the US would need many more troops on the ground in the region. What to do then? A draft seems like the logical outcome. No?

Probably.

That's like those stupid "If you don't like the USA then get out" chants. Frankly there's a few barriers to anywhere moving across the world, such as say, language, culture, money, etc. Also I'm not sure I understand the logic of moving somewhere just because you support them in a conflict.

Anyway I don't blame the people of the United States for the invasion, but I don't blame the people of Iraq for resisting invasion either. Like the NLF was in Vietnam, these groups are very strongly motivated towards establishing an independent state. Although not all that well-organized, they're enough of a threat that 200,000 some foreign troops are necessary to prevent a revolution. Basically we're there to beat them back into submission and then leave when we think it's "secure".

I don't at all like their crude means of protesting, but I can at least empathize with their fight against foreign oppression. I can't say the same for US soldiers there, although I don't like seeing them killed either. But when you go somewhere hostile swinging your stick I'm not sure what you'd expect to happen.

If you walk away from everything that bothers you, eventually you end up in a plastic hut by shit creek. Sometimes things are indeed lame beyond repair and by all means it's best to leave, but usually it's better to speak up from your place and not let it, or help it, become something you despise.

I see, so a democracy where everyone is given the opportunity to vote peacefully and create their own revolution for the first time in their lives is bad. However, those willing to kill their OWN COUNTRYMEN to "defend" their country so that the same tyrannical, oppressive people can be running the government of those that appreciate the freedoms that we've already given them.

Sounds genius.

Those people were put there by America. Your Gov. is becoming one of the most oppressive around, yet if Iraq or any other country invaded to put in place a system they deam to be better, you would be one of the 1st to "take up arms" to defend it.
