Movie Quotes (Pointless Knowledge)

Recommended Posts

I put together some movie quotes off the top of my head. If you're up to it, guess the movies these quotes are from (and shame, shame, shame on you if you use IMDB or any other quote source to find out where they're from!). I didn't double-check these, so they *could* be slightly inaccurate, be warned. Some are easy, but some are obscure and should be hard:

EDIT: Well, it's been two weeks and I think it's time to reveal the sources of the quotes. I hope you had fun.

1.
-Cute girl.
-Was.
-Still is...

--Friday the 13th: the Final Chapter (1984)

2.
-You're gonna need a bigger boat.

--Jaws (1975)

3.
-The Tigers are playing ... tonight!

--RoboCop (1987)

8.

10.
-Just 'cause the fucker's got a library card, doesn't make him Yoda.

17.
-Did you get that?
-Nah, something about a double-cross.
-Tell me about it!

I either know none of these or have heard them many times in many different movies. I have one of my own though:

- It doesn't DO anything, that's the beauty of it!

I saw a thread on another forum where somebody wanted to know the source of that. They said it was so familiar, but just couldn't place it. As soon as they brought it up, there were about 400 similar responses, all expressing the same irritation. Now it's bothering me too.

Done, and I've heard that the quote might be from the old Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie.

I am very impressed so far! You guys are obviously suckers for movie quotes too. :-)

BTW, #17 is not "Die Hard 2" -- but it's close!

Damn, people already answered the ones I know...except...is #1 Sin City? It sounds very familiar at any rate. So does #20.

Agh! That is soooo damn familiar...but I can't place my finger on it.

My guess is Dr. Strangelove but I don't think that's right.

#16 is not "My Fair Lady", in fact, it's *very* far from it!

From My Fair Lady song lyrics:

Oh, wouldn't it be lovely ? (lovely)
Lovely (lovely)

oh burn

All right, Ling, I can't argue with that. Well done. :-D (There's another movie I had in mind, though.)

Numbermind: #1 isn't "Armageddon", #20 isn't "Return of the Jedi", sorry.

It was from the original Die Hard, as the double-cross mentioned was the terrorists preparing to bomb the top of the building... the "tell me about it" was about the Feds bringing in a gunship rather than the transport the terrorists wanted. That exchange was between Al Powell and someone else.

without looking at others':
2 jaws
5 Galaxy quest
12 Once upon a time in the west (awesome line)
13 groundhog day

You'd think I'd get more of them.

I only knew the Jaws and MPatHG quotes. The only reason I knew the Jaws one is because everyone knows it; I haven't even seen the movie. I have seen the Grail more than a few times, though!

You are correct, Sir!

Do you all want some clues for the remaining quotes? (1,6,8,9,18,20)

6: Gandalf?
20: I think you have it quoted wrong, but I can't be sure... it is a very recent action movie.
and the "it doesn't do anything" could be Spock from TOS pertaining to the Tribbles.
I think this line might be combined from many similar lines in many movies. Take Throw Momma from the train, one of Billy Crystal's students says that about him when he is accused of the murder.
