Darkman 4 Posted May 10, 2005 http://www.beyondunreal.com/main/future/ut2007.php Conquest sounds badass, but the framerate'll be terrible for those that don't have the latest video cards and shit. >_< 0 Share this post Link to post
Mogul Posted May 10, 2005 Really wish they'd stick with "Envy." UT2007 just puts it in a line of hardly recognizable titles, like the Madden series or something. 0 Share this post Link to post

The Flange Peddler Posted May 10, 2005 The article says: UT2007 is a completely new game, not a continuation of UT2003/4. Could've bloody fooled me by the looks of things. Has the FPS genre become so stale as to only be able to offer FIFA/Madden/NHLPA/insert-wacky-sports-franchise-here style yearly rehashing of the same thing these days? 0 Share this post Link to post
Coopersville Posted May 10, 2005 Boo hoo, some people like playing UT. 0 Share this post Link to post

Quast Posted May 10, 2005 ut2k3 and 2k4 did not have "fighting game-like" combos. In fact, what are you talking about? The adrenaline combos? How did they fuck over newbies? 0 Share this post Link to post
Use Posted May 10, 2005 All I know is the combo system is stupid. Give me oldskool UT anyday. More time killing and less dancing around the air like a jackass. 0 Share this post Link to post
bartwart Posted May 10, 2005 from article: Epic aims to correct the steep learning curve seen in UT2003/4, making the game enjoyable for newbies and veteran players alike, hence the ability to use your stats to find similarly-skilled opponents This is very much needed. FPS gaming has gotten way too serious. Forcing newbies to play against veterans is a sure way to get people to stop playing your game fast. Doom is more casual and laid back, and you don't need fork out hundreds of dollars on a new graphics card to enjoy it. FYI.. I was in a computer book store the other day, and in between all the technical books was a big ole' fatty book on how to design Unreal 2003/4 maps. Who the hell has time to read shit like that, and then to be able to fully utilize that knowledge, especially when you aren't getting paid for it? Epic hopes to have deeper community integration in-game for the next UT. Is this like the Sims but with guns? 0 Share this post Link to post
Mogul Posted May 10, 2005 "correct the learning curve" -- laff. If they want to put in an _option_ for players to be matched up with players of similar skill, fine, nothing wrong with that. That's a good thing. (so long as it's not forced, at least/more freedom = good) Doom is more casual and laid back, Depends on who you're playing with. Your map01 game with me, for instance, is not going to be anything like casual and laid back. >:) and you don't need fork out hundreds of dollars on a new graphics card to enjoy it. But when the game came out -- you did have to have a pretty good system to run it well. In fact, not even a pentium 1 runs it _that_ well. The system performance issue with any competitive game is a non-issue, as gamers' rigs will get better over time and the games will run amazingly well -- eventually. I remember when Quake III came out, it was so hard to try to get a good framerate on it at all, but my current system eats it alive. 0 Share this post Link to post

(so long as it's not forced, at least/more freedom = good) Hopefully it will be like Yahoo games where they clearly mark each room at a specific skill level. That way experts can just play experts, etc., if they so choose. Also, it would be nice to be able to configure servers to block out people at certain skill levels. 0 Share this post Link to post

Mogul Posted May 10, 2005 The thing is -- only the ignorant players are doing that in UT games. Maybe they've heard of the concept of strafejumping, circlejumping, and the like from the Quake series, but hey -- it doesn't work at all in UT. If you're jumping around like an idiot, you're not going to go any faster in UT2004 than you would if you were just running, and it was put together that way I'm sure. There is a speedtrick involving jumping, but it's not just pressing the jump key and moving at the same time. I can't believe the ignorance of some people. :( 0 Share this post Link to post

gemini09 Posted May 15, 2005 I don't see why they decided to call it 2007 instead of 5. Would be cooler with regular updates like Fifa, NBA, NHL... It's about a futuristic bloodSPORT, afterall... One thing about the UT games that bothers me is the tiny human models. Getting up close to an opponent should in "reality" make aiming a piece of cake but instead I find myself confused most of the time. Being a world class pro, I can say, you don't move faster by jumping and moving at the same time, but you do move faster by so-called Dodging, and Dodge-Jumping: Direction twice fast, and direction twice fast plus jump. http://www.beyondunreal.com/image.php?src=staff/raptor/ut2007_may05/hr/up1.jpg Damn this looks nice. By the way how does everyone love the aroused female announcer? It's the most brilliant thing I ever heard. Too bad this happens pretty much never, try getting the maximum kills-in-a-row medal, haha...what a wonderful job she did, too. Such spunk. Oh yeah, hope for motorcycles this time around! 0 Share this post Link to post
