Mivalekan Posted June 5, 2005 I got my new computer up and running, having to reformat and all. But my computer lost its IP address, so therefore I have no internet.. Is there any way to issue a computer an IP address without having your ISP do it? I'm on a NETGEAR router RP614 (if that really helps). ps If you're wondering how I'm online now, I'm using my parent's computer currently. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted June 5, 2005 You're probably better off asking in, I dunno, a networking forum or something. Check your router's manual if you haven't already. 0 Share this post Link to post
Planky Posted June 5, 2005 Do you mean the router has lost the ip, or is the pc not getting one? 0 Share this post Link to post
Opulent Posted June 6, 2005 hard to say without more information, but I assume you didn't install or configure a adapter.... or you router is configured to only route certain IPs or subnets. If you are using Windows, if you have connectivity to your router(or any network, or have a software-loopback adapter installed) your OS will issue you a 169 ip address. (stupid NT kernel systems only enable networking when a network is present) most ISP only renew addresses once a day or so... and often use a tabled-list to give IPs(so your DHCP is really almost static even though it has an expiration time). You should be able to set it staticly, but if your router isn't routing the packets, you won't be up. gl. 0 Share this post Link to post
