Nightmare Doom Posted July 28, 2005 Great article: http://gr.bolt.com/articles/violence/violence.htm Talk about it here 0 Share this post Link to post
DooMer87 Posted July 28, 2005 heh. look at the graph. I guess those coke dealers, pot smokers, LSD takers, gun shooters, and child molesters all took a break to do the same thing they love in a video game. (i'm not sure about child molesting in GTA IV, which will be coming soon, or any GTA...heh) Weird that they want little jimmy to play the game "little bunnies in the magical forest where babies are magically born out of thin air", while his neighbor Badass Bill plays Blood Chamber XIV-Ultra Violence Chainsaw Fest, which has so much blood the producers decided to chop up the mail runner in the building, and use his blood for coloring on the cover, and a ribcage as a box. Preety violent, I must say. 0 Share this post Link to post

Jehar Posted July 28, 2005 A very well written and well sourced article, but the fact remains that rockstart is royally screwing over the gaming community. If they accepted blame for their fuckup it would be alright, but the blaming on the modders seems to contradict and undermine what the author is saying in the article. 0 Share this post Link to post

I fear the worst for the modding community now. Rockstar has already given videogames a bad name, and now they're going to ruin everything for modders. The next you know, we'll have laws making it illegal to make mods for games. 0 Share this post Link to post

Janderson Posted July 29, 2005 Um, strip searching girls for money? Why didn't I think of that? The media fucked up again, you say? Let's have a revolution and place our equals in the media throne! Maybe even the modders. 0 Share this post Link to post
Submerge Posted July 29, 2005 Just remember, in about 40 years, the 'violent game playing youths' of america will be in government positions. just have some patience. EXCELLENT article. 0 Share this post Link to post

You never know, but you're right, it is up to the developers to allow mods. People just won't be able to mod GTA:SA anymore. 0 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, kind of like how all the hippies/60s activists are in government positions today, eh? 0 Share this post Link to post
TheDarkArchon Posted July 30, 2005 The hippie thing lasted less than a decade. Videogames have been around for around 3 decades. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quast Posted July 30, 2005 TheDarkArchon said:The hippie thing lasted less than a decade. if you think "hippy thing" only applies to people who migrated to san fransico and expected the "scene" to care for them...sure Videogames have been around for around 3 decades. So? Hippies/beatniks have been around for 5 decades. Not only those that would label themselves as such, but those who share similar political ideals (namley those too young to have been around in the 60s and 70s). Plus they would and should have more of a movitation to enter politics than "video gamers" anyway...considering the hippies themselves are products of a large social and political movement, and video gamers are not. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted July 30, 2005 Let's just face it. The people who run for office are those who do not have the people's best interest in mind. Just like the Bible says: 7 When Jotham was told about this, he climbed up on the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted to them, "Listen to me, citizens of Shechem, so that God may listen to you. 8 One day the trees went out to anoint a king for themselves. They said to the olive tree, 'Be our king.' 9 "But the olive tree answered, 'Should I give up my oil, by which both gods and men are honored, to hold sway over the trees?' 10 "Next, the trees said to the fig tree, 'Come and be our king.' 11 "But the fig tree replied, 'Should I give up my fruit, so good and sweet, to hold sway over the trees?' 12 "Then the trees said to the vine, 'Come and be our king.' 13 "But the vine answered, 'Should I give up my wine, which cheers both gods and men, to hold sway over the trees?' 14 "Finally all the trees said to the thornbush, 'Come and be our king.' 15 "The thornbush said to the trees, 'If you really want to anoint me king over you, come and take refuge in my shade; but if not, then let fire come out of the thornbush and consume the cedars of Lebanon!' -- Judges 9, NIV Also, note how the downtrend in violence begins at the height of Doom's popularity. :P 0 Share this post Link to post
