fraggle Posted July 29, 2005 I found this in the idgames archive, thought it was rather amusing: http://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pc/games/idgames/docs/faqs/qtalk400.txt 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted July 29, 2005 Pretty cool. Some stuff was pretty accurate from the start, some quite fatastic in relation to how it turned out. <|nurgle|> iddt- one thing i have been dying to know is if wither there will be more than one weapon :) nurgle, me too. not sure yet. i think there will be. there's this rather lame idea about a hammer i'm quietly trying to destroy. Heh. 0 Share this post Link to post
andrewj Posted July 29, 2005 Romero said:the 3d engine has gotten to the point where it's going to be almost as much fun to experience the environment as it is to actually play the game. you should be walking around in quake just in awe, looking around and going, "this is awesome!" 0 Share this post Link to post
Naked Snake Posted July 29, 2005 <|nurgle|> ddt- demonic? so quake will have an evil kinda setting? one that will make every christian in the world foamm at the mouth? <iddt> nurg, that's the goal Romero - 'plot? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!' Romero - 'quake makes doom look like a sad little cartoon.' Romero - 'we're playing with a few different ways of doing realtime shadowing.' -> "and, uh... you can do all kinds of cool things with the hammer. in -> doom, you shot a guy from a distance, they screamed "aargh" and froze -> to their places. in quake, you go and hit the enemy with the hammer, so -> that he stumbles to the ground. then when he tries to rise up, you hit -> him again and he stumbles again, rolls a little distance, jumps up and -> starts to run away. he limps, bleeds, and you can follow him by the -> trail of blood drops on the floor. now that's violence! -> <Romero> you'll definitely be holding a hammer in one hand and attack artifacts in the other. <[NuRgLe]> romero- why a hsammer and not an axe or sword? <Romero> a hammer is a blunt, brutal instrument. just like quake. ok, when you saw wolf you spooged on your own knees right? then doom came out and you spooged all over yourself again, only this time more. "wow!" you thought, "i didn't know i could spooge _that_ much!" just wait till quake, you'll be mopping spooge for days. OMG GUYS I THINK QUAKE IS GONNA BE ONE OF THE COOLEST GAMES EVAR... 0 Share this post Link to post

Bank Posted July 29, 2005 Scabbed Angel said:I wonder why they forogt to impliment those features... ; P Because the Tech wasn't good enough. Because Carmack's a whiner. And because of time issues. They were going to have demon souls and the unmaker in Doom, and honestly, I wasn't too crazy about the idea. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ed Posted July 30, 2005 "we want quake to be as realistic as possible, so there's no music in the background." says romero. what you'll hear are "environmental sounds -- of owls and crickets and monsters -- that are triggered by where you walk and look. for instance, you're going along and you hear something. you turn toward a cave and the sound, now ominous, grows louder. then, as you walk toward the cave, the sound gets even louder, and a pair of red eyes appear -- next thing, a monster's coming right at you, and you better get the fuck out of there. just looking around makes it happen." It sounds like Romero was 15 years ahead of what technology/patients would allow (prehaps he should join the 3d Realms development team) 0 Share this post Link to post
Technician Posted July 30, 2005 The two misson packs tried to pick up some of those ideas and make it happen. I have a feeling Romero would haveliked Quake to be a little bit more like them. 0 Share this post Link to post

Caco-Puff Posted July 31, 2005 John Romero Said Sometime in 1994 (quake will likely be released on every computer and video game platform except those made by nintendo -- a result of id's righteous indignation over the censorship of its first hit, wolfenstein 3-d, when it was portthen everyone gets into the market. and they may have good technology, but they don't understand design. they just don't know what it takes to make a a cool game," Burn... 0 Share this post Link to post
Mogul Posted July 31, 2005 That's such a hillarious, politically incorrect thing to say for a game developer. Rock on. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Ralphis Posted July 31, 2005 Ironically, its Nintendo nowadays making new, exciting innovative gameplay while Romero is pretty much an unemployed bum 0 Share this post Link to post

jute Posted July 31, 2005 since all this quake talk has me reinstalling and playing it again, could someone point me in the direction of a mod archive or review site (one with more recent entries than the idgames2 archive, which stopped taking submissions)? 0 Share this post Link to post

SteelPH Posted July 31, 2005 If it weren't for the fact I don't have Q1 installed anymore, and that my disc is busted, I'd review some of the mods. 0 Share this post Link to post
