Over one year later...

I picked up D3 again, which I hadn't done in about 8 months.

Man, the game really does play better after not using it for so long. If you haven't played it in a while, I recommend doing so. You may be surprised.

I was about to throw it away but Coop mods came out so I decided to play it again on coop.

Go to lms.d3files.com and download v1.0 you'll like it.

Hmm, just installed nvidia's new 77.77's and Doom3's looking pretty damn good and running smooth under them. loaded up RoE for a few also. for being "a little" hard on the game recently i seemed to have enjoyed playing it again too.

Never lost intrest, found mods on internet, failed at ever winning a deathmatch, watched editing video tutorials, made a room in which two zombies slug it out with various weapons binded to their hands.

+ I'm replaying the actual game and it's as fun as ever it was.

Sadly Doom 3 didn't get any faster for me w/ ATI's latest drivers. The user-created maps are great stuff, though. Too bad the expansion's gameplay was kinda barfy.

I find myself playing Half-life 2 Deathmatch much more. :P

I've been playing it recently again just for the atmosphere and graphics. In that regard, no other game on earth comes close to it. It owns in that department. There was just so many flaws in the gameplay that prevented it from becoming one of my fav games. Such as the shotgun has no reach at all, all of the enemies are weak as hell. I figure since you could only fight a couple at a time, they should be a little tougher. The imp scream was just down right annoying, the maggot shouldn't have even made it in the game, the weapons sound effects were lame. Let me stop, for some reason I still love this game, and I never uninstalled it. Like all things designed for top tier sound systems, you have to play it loud in order to appreciate it.

I think it's a pretty good game by today's standards. There are a lot of plus points, the big negatives being the repetitive gameplay, feeling too scripted, and very short amount of time spent in 'hell'.

I'm trying to run through it again here at uni though and it's fun, and some of the user maps are good. This is a game that will be made or broken by its community mappers now, as the product is there, it's in their hands how to maximise it.

And to be honest, and think hell could've been done better. I actually liked hell in ROE more. I wanted bright lava falls and more flames!! A break from all the darkness would've been nice! And imo, the hell level should've had a creepy instrumental but still ambient playing. Kinda like quake1, I kinda grew tired of all the whispers and crying. Ahh it was still good though.
