St. Doom Posted August 18, 2005 What are the best three things/worst three things aboung Doom/Doom2 Top 3 3.Simple Graphics that don't kill your pc 2.It's Dark and morbid as hell 1.You can do anything to it Bottom 3 3.The Zombies are ugly 2.Lost Souls 1.Pain Elm. 0 Share this post Link to post
KwadDamyj Posted August 18, 2005 Top 3: -1. Fun to make levels for. -2. Tons of mod potential. -3. Challenging and fast yet intricate. Bottom 3: -1. Close-range pixellation. -2. The supershottie is used ludricrously(sp?) in Skull Tag, and makes me ponder what the point in Skull Tag of the regular shotgun is. -3. Why the heck can I run faster than my rockets? 0 Share this post Link to post
Trilinear Posted August 19, 2005 Top 3: - Realistic monster graphics and quality textures. - Timeless gameplay. - Memorable and atmospheric (E1M8!) music. Bottom 3: - Doom II's lack of consistent themes and exceedingly unoriginal level design. - The Revenant, this guy is a joke. - The decision in E3M9 to use the Cyberdemon again. Would have been much cooler if he was a unique character, rather than a breed of monster. 0 Share this post Link to post
DoOmEr4LiFe Posted August 19, 2005 Top 3 1. It's the best Co-op game ever made, and Co-op is my favorite mode of play. 2. The thousands of wads and mods out there that ensure Doom never dies. 3. Like a fine wine, Doom has only gotten better with age, and it'll only get better. Bottom 3 wait...what? 0 Share this post Link to post
KwadDamyj Posted August 19, 2005 Top: 1. BFG! BFG! BFG! 2. The Icon of Sin is still IMHO one of the coolest bosses in gaming history. 3. D2M07 is IMHO one of the best DM maps ever. Bottom: -Lost Souls bug me. -Bad to play right before bed. -No room over room, but who cares?! 0 Share this post Link to post
wildweasel Posted August 19, 2005 TOP: 3. Flexible for the most part 2. Still more fun than other brand names (like Serious Sam) 1. Easy to modify BOTTOM: 3. Pain elementals 2. The fact that people think I'm a madman when I mention Doom (I hate you, Eric Harris, for destroying the image of video gaming) 1. Occasionally hard to get certain effects to work (like the full sky) 0 Share this post Link to post
wallis Posted August 19, 2005 GREAT variety of enemies amazing storyline It made the fps genre, the graphics are outdated Doom 3 >_< linear gameplay 0 Share this post Link to post
Vile1011 Posted August 20, 2005 1. A perfect balance of weapons and monsters (super shotgun notwithstanding). 2. Simplicity of gameplay translates into concentrated fun. 3. Monster death animations that you just plain can't get with 3D models. -1. The player runs so fast I once backed INTO a cacodemon fireball that was going away from me. -2. The final boss of doom2 is a wall texture. -3. E3M1. 0 Share this post Link to post
Terra-jin Posted August 20, 2005 What's wrong with e3m1? Oh, and: 3: DSSLOP 2: The greatest gameplay 1: The artwork of the monsters, things and textures have that wonderful 'doomy' feel -3: Can sometimes be too addictive -2: DOOM ][ required more new weapons -1: Final DOOM required new monsters Then again, those last two gripes can be countered by DOOM's moddability. 0 Share this post Link to post
Siggi Posted August 20, 2005 TopBalance of enemies is brilliant Modding is easy as pie I love the speed of the gameplay (Doom is still faster than 90% of the other FPS games I've played)BottomPeople think I'm crazy because Doom is my favourite game Doom 2 has too many shit levels in it No women in Doom... 0 Share this post Link to post
Inferno Posted August 20, 2005 +The atmosphere (gameplay in general) +GREAT replay value, always come back for more +Theres nothing like it -Final DOOM needed different Bosses -DOOMII could of used better cityscaping designs -Keeps you playin late at night when you have to get up early the next day 0 Share this post Link to post
Bashe Posted August 20, 2005 Top 3: 1. Incredibly fun to play still 2. Easy to modify 3. BFG Bottom 3: 1. Lost Souls 2. Pain Elemental 3. Sky3 of Plutonia 0 Share this post Link to post
Hobbs Posted August 20, 2005 Top 1. Still fun 2. New levels still 3. Easy to edit for Bottom 1. Fuckin n00bs 2. Lack of difficulty 3. Not always original stuff 0 Share this post Link to post
Nmn Posted August 20, 2005 Good: 1.Fun 2.Nostalgic 3.Graphics Bad: 1.Graphics 2.Lack of depth or serious plot 3. I dunno 0 Share this post Link to post
Ebon Posted August 23, 2005 Good: 1. very efficient - you don't need any new games, DOOM does just that at minimal performance loss. Graphics look real too. 2. Robert Prince's music 3. Classic, non-linear level design. Unfortunately, id Software's design talents have fallen horribly. Just see Doom 3 and its ultra linear freedomless levels. Bad: 1. DOOM 1 is way too easy (even if hard, it feels like Wolf with infighting and missile shooters) 2. They made the spiderdemon too weak (even then it's my alltime favourite) and the BFG too strong. 3. Dunno 0 Share this post Link to post
Foxpup Posted September 3, 2005 +1 BFuG +2 Nightmare Mode +3 Possibly the fastest 3D engine ever made -1 People who complain about the BFuG -2 People who think I'm odd for playing in Nightmare mode -3 People who say it's not really 3D 0 Share this post Link to post
ducon Posted September 3, 2005 Top 3: * It’s still fun; * The truckload of WADs; * The modability (for a player like me). Bottom 3: * The non-free/Windows/x86/bigrig ports; * The guys who are modding for such ports; * No real 3D. 0 Share this post Link to post
TheDarkArchon Posted September 3, 2005 + Atmosphere + Mods (& ease of making them) + That big fucker of a gun. I forgot it's name (XD) - The Plasma Gun noise after a long strech - WOW.WAD - PAin Elementals without having the BFG 0 Share this post Link to post
Balos Posted September 3, 2005 Top: 1. Atmosphere - One of the things that make Doom fun to play. Revenant howling (?) on the background, sound effects that suit the game, everything. 2. Lots of levels - I discovered recently a couple great wads, that will make sure, that I won't get bored in a long time. 3. Easy to make levels - It's very easy to make levels in Wolfenstein, but they are a bit too limited. You can make almost everything with Half-Life, but it's a little bit too complicated to me. Doom is just perfectly between those. Bottom: 1. Several engine limitations - You have to make some compromises in the level design sometimes. I'm mostly talking about not being able to make multiple floors on top of each other. 2. Technically outdated - I was hoping that Doom 3 would continue the excellent Doom series, but... it doesn't feel like Doom anymore. Action turned to horror. 3. Can't think of anything else right now. 0 Share this post Link to post
Iori Branford Posted September 4, 2005 + For barebones running and gunning, no other game does it better. It is to shooting what Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo is to fighting. + Editing scene is still very much there, with tons of great levels and mods still coming out. + Multiplayer, everything about it. - Episodes 2 and 3 of Doom 1 are nothing special, probably because the maps look so similar. - People always talk about the joy of playing on Nightmare, but I feel Duke Nukem 3D on Damn I'm Good has it beat. - The Pistol is way underpowered. Now I always play with a DEH that among other things doubles the Pistol's ROF, making it 10 times more fun in the bargain. KwadDamyj said:The supershottie is used ludicrously in Skull Tag, and makes me ponder what the point in Skull Tag of the regular shotgun is. It still works for sniping, especially in places with long hallways like Dwango5 Map07. 0 Share this post Link to post
pritch Posted September 4, 2005 Strengths Greatest game of all time, the daddy of FPS gameplay, infinitely moddable, infinite mods exist, thousands of high-quality maps, tens of thousands of more average ones, great atmosphere, well-balanced and full spectrum of enemies/weapons, and a highly active community deep into the 21st century. Weaknesses None that MBF/Boom and now zdoom haven't pretty much solved (freelook, jump, limits removed, modern res, sound etc. etc.) 0 Share this post Link to post
Killionaire Posted September 10, 2005 Top Favorites- 1- The fanbase (PWADs, custom music, etc.) 2- Robert Prince's music 3- Doom 1 level design. Problems 1. SSG!! (so overpowered most other weapons become null and void, especially the chaingun) 2. Majority of monsters added by Doom2 3. I never thought about it but that guy makes a good point on the pistol (Please let me know where you found that DEH file if you get the chance). Honorable Mention Problem- The story isn't well implemented into the game (understandable because of its time). But it seems to attract a fanbase that doesn't care much for storyline either. Dammit, if i'm trecking through a 32 level megawad I want a reason! 0 Share this post Link to post
F8al 4ce Posted September 10, 2005 The Good probably my favorite thing about Doom 2 is the shotgun SSG switch trick, in which if you hold down “fire” and constantly switch between the two, you don’t suffer reload delay between shots. The BFG and the strange fact that on doom 1, it only hits things you are looking at. IT IS ORIGINAL, it is not a clone or blatant rip-off, like you see so much of these days The Bad Not enough people appreciate it Is allergic to windows XP (however Zdaemon solves this) Doom 2 was slightly less than its parent game 0 Share this post Link to post

Dron Posted September 11, 2005 top 3 1. the atmosphere 2. the awesome monsters/weapons 3. how easy it is to make levels bottom 3 1. no true 3d 2. doom2's level design 3. e3m8 0 Share this post Link to post
Bastet Furry Posted September 11, 2005 Top: Atmosphere Easy to edit Fast gameplay Bottom: Everybody who rants about the doom2 maps Hard to master, in terms of editing ;) Nobody hacks me a DeusEx/SystemShock2_a_like inventory system 0 Share this post Link to post
youspeakmylanguage Posted September 12, 2005 TOP: 1) Greatest computer game ever. 2) Greatest computer game ever. 3) Greatest computer game ever. BOTTOM: 1) Cyberdemon more challenging and fun than Spider Mastermind 2) Baphomet was a wall texture, even if blowing up Romero's head was an inspired idea. 3) Only one new weapon in DOOM II Yes, I know all three of these were already mentioned... 0 Share this post Link to post
gravitar Posted September 15, 2005 Top: BFG Archviles lots of great wads to choose from Bottom: Revenants (good attack but I hate everything else) some sounds get on my nerves sometimes the delay when switching to rocketlauncher/bfg before it fires 0 Share this post Link to post
TwinBeast Posted September 15, 2005 Top 3: 1. Fun to play again and again and again... 2. Simple 3. About one new map done everyday Bottom 3: 1. BFG makes the Doom 1 endbosses too easy 2. Lack of some map editing features(which have been implemented now on some source ports) 3. In DM everybody just keeps using supershotgun 0 Share this post Link to post
