Guest ZZ_TOPPER_X Posted October 20, 2001 Basically, very time I connect to a game, it shuts down ZDoom and says some jabberwocky about an illegal operation. Should I redownload ZDoom and ZDaemon? OR WHAT?!?!?! 0 Share this post Link to post
Sephiroth Posted October 20, 2001 hey my aim screen name is jabberwock, but i am not the cause of your problems. Maybe a reboot may help. if not just reinstall the 2. if that dont work it could be a .dll problem 0 Share this post Link to post
nc_ds Posted October 20, 2001 If your ping to the server(s) in question is very high (say 600+), illegal operations upon trying to connect will be very common. Too bad. Packet loss in general is bad news, too. Btw, you don't need ZDooM to be able to play ZDaemon, and vice versa. ZDaemon is based on csDooM which is based on ZDooM. Anyhow, if there is _any_ way you can get to play people in the original DooM, I highly recommend doing that instead. N.C. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sephiroth Posted October 20, 2001 playing original doom in net play is about impossible. the only way it can be done is a 4 person LAN party. well u can call someone and play that way, but u need a old ass modem(or full hardware modem compadible with an old ass modem) I have never had any sucess playing a net game with original doom 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest ZZ_TOPPER_X Posted October 21, 2001 I do modem games with my buddy down the street, and I have tried one LAN game on zone.com, but it was REALLY SLOW. Have a least a T1 b4 you try it. Both times, I had fun. Well, basicall whats with my ZDaemon program, is sometimes I can get into this server, sometimes I cant... ugh. I wonder if it's in the software or somethin. If so, UPDATE PLEASE. 0 Share this post Link to post
nc_ds Posted October 21, 2001 > playing original doom in net play is about > impossible. Actually it works quite well. I play DooM2 v1.9 on the 'net on a regular basis, more precisely at http://zone.msn.com/zonelan. I'm lucky enough to get playable pings to some of the very best deathmatchers in the world. Playing on the Zone with pings as low as say 45 ms is great. These games actually work better than the typical sersetup modem game, and about just as well as the typical serial cable (null-modem) game. Of course, playing on a fast ethernet LAN would be even better, but this definitely is the next best thing. I was playing DooM on the 'net already back in 1994, by the way, using some funny piece of Unix software called IHHD (Internet Head-to-Head Daemon?). Those games were dead laggy, though, as I was using a 14.4k SupraFAXModem at the time. > the only way it can be done is a 4 person > LAN party. Why specifically 4 persons?-) We were 13 doomers in Stavanger in July, all hooked up to the same LAN. It was great fun. > well u can call someone and play that way, > but u need a old ass modem (or full hardware > modem compadible with an old ass modem) Yes, you do need a real modem to be able to play original DooM, using sersetup or some compatible serial driver. > I have never had any sucess playing a net game > with original doom Well, let's hope you will, sometime soon... Lüt Posted October 22, 2001 I used to play modem games on a 14.4, ran perfect on both ends. At least, when I played with somebody who had a good computer. Some of the people had 486 and 386 computers, which of course I lasted about 5 minutes in those games. The weirdest thing is that they could play the games perfectly with frame-per-second animation, they were so used to it. 0 Share this post Link to post
