Ebon Posted August 23, 2005 Which is the best of DOOM 2? Try to be objective. I think it's MAP10: Refuelling Base (Sandy Petersen). Playing it for scratch, you get the best ballance ever. Monsters everywhere, but everywhere for you to hide, because the place is completely circular. And if you end up with the Cyber at the bad time, you're in deep shit, because he's devious. Even with both the BFG and invuln I was having trouble! Great level. I hardly think I'll ever see a homebuilt level so non-linear like this (except perhaps '94s and '95s and others.) 0 Share this post Link to post
EarthQuake Posted August 23, 2005 I would also go with refueling base because it was one of the original Doom maps and doesn't suck ass. Heh. 0 Share this post Link to post

Doom Marine Posted August 24, 2005 I'll have to go with Map11: 'O' of Destruction. Somewhat non-orthogonal architecture, a very interweaving layout, generous ammo and health, fun secrets, I like it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Vader Posted August 24, 2005 Map17: Tenements! Cooperative was pure fun, because of the extra Cyberdemon. 0 Share this post Link to post
Stealthy Ivan Posted August 24, 2005 I have a tie between map13 and map29! I have always liked them both. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted August 24, 2005 I'll go for map19, The Citadel. Constant action, convincing architecture, plenty of surprises and highly non-linear. There's also scope for a few tricks. Plenty of other faves too, such as map09, map14 and map29. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted August 24, 2005 I'll arbitrarily go for map05 today. But I like most of them. Except 13, 16, 19, 21, 22, 25, 31 and 32. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kristian Ronge Posted August 24, 2005 Nothing beats map 7, great in single play, as well as the best DM map in Doom 2. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xanthier Posted August 24, 2005 Nmn said:I'd say Map 15: Industrial Area. One of my favorites, along with The Living End and crap, I'll think of the name later. 0 Share this post Link to post
TheDarkArchon Posted August 24, 2005 Industrial Zone, The Spirit World, The Living End, The Icon Of Sin, The Pit, Refueling Base. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ebon Posted August 25, 2005 myk said:Tom Hall. Except the item placement and such. What, didn't he quit id Software before DOOM 1 was released? or is this converted from an older DOOM 1 series? (MAYBE YEAH, CUZ I REMEMBER-OR NOT-THAT THIS WAS WITHIN A DOOM 1 ALPHA...) Sorry I haven't looked in his site, for time constraits. Thanks anyway. THE CITADEL--another strangie. Almost all textures are from DOOM 1, as well as many monsters. This could easily be a map converted from DOOM 1 and it looks kinda ugly. But I don't hate it... 0 Share this post Link to post
Tetzlaff Posted August 26, 2005 Tenements (map17) and The Chasm (map24) have always been two of my top favourite levels. The first has a good sense of place and is nicely interconnected, and the later just has cool athmosphere and is weird in an unsettling way. Industrial Zone (map15) is also pretty cool because of the scale and the ammount of non-linearity. 0 Share this post Link to post
wallis Posted August 26, 2005 Omg.....you can tell i am such a freakin' n00b....map 30...just jkin, ummmmmm map 07 always made me happy, especially the arachnatron bit, i turned off the music and all i got was....bang bang *gurble..dead* over and over and over and over 0 Share this post Link to post
KwadDamyj Posted August 26, 2005 I'd have to say the city levels, Map30, and some aspects of Monster Condo (if they had gotten rid of those out-of-place techbits, it would have been atmospheric as heck). 0 Share this post Link to post
DooMer87 Posted August 26, 2005 Underhalls-map 02. It always captivated me how the chainsaw in the first levle would be immediately be put into use into someone's back. I also appreciated the technique, you know. The way you had to get the key to flip the switch to get access to that other part of the level, wait thats in all doom levels. 0 Share this post Link to post
Foxpup Posted September 3, 2005 MAP07, simple but effective MAP10, non-linear structure MAP20, slightly more original use of the DooM 1 bosses MAP29, all-round brilliant level MAP30, best boss ever created 0 Share this post Link to post
zap610 Posted September 3, 2005 I like Monster Condo, theres just something about it I like. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dr. Zin Posted September 3, 2005 Map 15: Industrial Area Map 28: The Spirit World I was overpowered by the atmosphere of the latter the first time i played it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mindless Rambler Posted September 3, 2005 MAP 13 & 15, urban combat is the way to go 0 Share this post Link to post
Nikanoru Posted September 3, 2005 I like the Underhalls. Idunno, it sort of feels....relaxing. Probably the music, paired with nostalgia. 0 Share this post Link to post

Ismaele Posted September 3, 2005 Uhm... in my opinion, the best levels of "Doom 2" are "Refueling Base" (because of its gloomy atmosphere!) and "O of Destruction" (because of its different architecture!)... I like also "Gotcha!", but just because I've always liked the weird but fun challenge between the CyberDemon and the Spider MasterMind. ;) 0 Share this post Link to post
zap610 Posted September 3, 2005 I think the factory has great atmosphere. 0 Share this post Link to post
Epyo Posted September 3, 2005 MAP14: The Inmost Dens is the greatest doom level of all time. 0 Share this post Link to post
doom2day Posted September 7, 2005 Map 28 is awsome. It was always a good challenge from a pistol start because you just can't run by the pain elementals. It is either that or level 7, which was really, really fun. I find it easy to run around the outside ring shooting at the manubuses with the super-shotgun. I always had fun outrunning the barrels in map23. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooMBoy Posted September 7, 2005 O of Destruction/Circle of Death for me. I like how it looks and how it plays, it's a very well put together map. 0 Share this post Link to post
