Doomsday texture glitches

I'm having trouble running custom Doomsday maps. I unzip the file to the c:\Doomsday directory, then add the wad in Kickstart. But when it starts the map, sometimes certain models aren't replaced and there's weird little multicolored "strips" on the textures; I suppose one might call them artifacts. I also noticed that when I remove the wad from Kickstart and simply want to play Doom 2, the level and graphics from the previous wad are still there! What am I doing wrong and how can I correct this?
