Would now be a better time for someone to release those .wad compilation CDs?

I mean, with engines like Zdoom and all, doom wads are becoming a hell of a lot more interesting and editable and even to an extent up to today's standard of games. Those old compilations that were brought out back in the day were full of generally aweful 1994-esque wading, I just think the diverse range of wads that have and can come out nowadays would be interesting to spring onto the market.
Your thoughts?

Nowadays people are sticklers for having their permission obtained before distribution, and I don't blame them, so you'd have trouble pulling off some shovelware like D!Zone without pissing somebody off.

Besides, the Internet is so pervasive now, and downloading WADs even on a 56K modem isn't that bad.

The '94 wads may seem not so good to some people now, but they were released back then (or relatively shortly after that) for a fully marketable game than ran on very many computers. DOOM might still be a bit sellable even now due to its importance, but wads for it wouldn't get far, even if they are spurced up to appear or play more in tune with what people expect now. In short, no one cares except a few nuts like us.

I mean, I know the doom wad station guy doesn't post here anymore because he's filthy rich from his sales and thus looks down upon us, but uh.

I like the idea greatly, but doubt it'd ever happen.

We should nominate the 200 best wads ever for Doom so I can burn them onto a CD for my own collection :D
