exp(x) Posted September 8, 2005 I just installed ubuntu amd64 on my desktop, and I'm wondering how to get music to work. I installed the timidity and timidity-patches packages like it says on the prboom webpage, but that didn't help. Any suggestions? 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted September 8, 2005 Did the web page tell you to place timidity.cfg in the PrBoom directory and then edit the line in it pointing to the GUS Patches directory? 0 Share this post Link to post
exp(x) Posted September 8, 2005 No, it didn't. So I copied timidity.cfg to ~/.prboom/ and edited the dir to be /usr/share/timidity/patches/ but it still isn't working. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted September 8, 2005 Does TiMidity play stuff on the system independently? What is the music_card setting on prboom.cfg? 0 Share this post Link to post
exp(x) Posted September 8, 2005 I was able to get timidity to work by itself after editing the cfg, but now prboom just starts up with a blank screen and I have to CTRL+ALT+Backspace to kill it. Here are the sound settings from my prboom.cfg # Sound settings sound_card -1 music_card -1 pitched_sounds 0 samplerate 22050 sfx_volume 15 music_volume 15 mus_pause_opt 2 sounddev "/dev/dsp" snd_channels 8 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted September 8, 2005 Hmm, weird, maybe they both need to somehow refer to the same timidity.cfg? 0 Share this post Link to post

Also, the music sounds horrible at the title. EDIT2: I don't think it's a mixer issue because I can listen to midis with timidity and play wavs or mp3s at the same time with no problem. 0 Share this post Link to post
ducon Posted September 9, 2005 Did you install the sound fonts (freepats)? 0 Share this post Link to post
exp(x) Posted September 9, 2005 Yes, in fact, I have two sound packs and neither work in prboom even though they work with timidity. I'm thinking this is somehow related to the fact that I'm running on x86_64. I'm probably going to set up a 32-bit chroot so I can get wine and other things (hopefully this, too) running properly. Thank you for all your help, myk. 0 Share this post Link to post
exp(x) Posted September 12, 2005 The 32-bit chroot installation of prboom worked perfectly. Now if only I can get wine to run skulltag. 0 Share this post Link to post
