I just downloaded the builder and doom 2. anything else anyone recommends i get? Also is there maybe a site somewhere that i can get things like models for things to add to maps? like trees or something for ourdoor areas? furniture? you know random crap to add flavor to my maps?

Some things you can get:

GIMP
For making graphics and stuff (currently there are only a few ports that actually use static models... VAVOOM comes to mind.)
From here, look through the forums and find a tutorial by Nmn that outlines making sprites (the weapon/item/monster images you see in game)
