baronnes of hell concept

heres a link to a new version of an old drawing I did based on a doom dream I had. the baroness of hell, for lack of a better name, is a female version of the baron of hell (duh).

I'm working on a sprite for the first link using parts from the hell knight and the arch-vile. I'm no good at making doom sprites from scratch so I do patchwork sprites and I'm having trouble with the legs. I'll post it when I get a frame done.

I agree with your personal critique on your original take. While a great drawing in and of itself, there isn't as much creativity in the first as there is in the second. The new take definitely looks more polished and, while obviously a take from DOOM, has your own elements as well.

Yay, kudos, I pray I don't have nightmares. :-P

I personally prefer the first image...
you got the elongated snout with the realigned horns for a more bitchy look... the hands. its all about those fucking hands ;)
+ tits for primal fertility goddess fears. Perfection.
As far as an attack goes... a simple fireball would not seem to do it justice. What do you have in mind? Seems to me this bitch would actually be more one to jump up onto you and start tearing away...

The second one actually looks a bit odd to me... the head makes it look like it has a ponytail or whatnot.

EDIT: Oh wait... took me a second to figure out that the first one is the new one... sleepy. Adjust my comment accordingly.

yeah, the one posted second was the original one that I saw in a dream. I wanted something more emaciated looking for a sprite I'm deveolping so I came up with the "slim-fast" model.

if I manage to get the sprite done, for her attacks I envisioned her doing an arch-vile like stance and build a bfg type projectile. it would build up a a little slow. when she releases it would break apart into a scatter shot, kinda like a plasma super-shotgun. for her melee attack I was thinking of her making a blast field around her that would attack 360 degrees around her and throw anyone affected like an arch-vile attack.

heres a crappy colored version of the sketch. I suck at coloring, especially digitally, but I had to give it a try.

Your second link didn't work. I think DevART's picky about that. Can you change it so that we can see the link on the DevART page? That might work. Thanks. :)

In any event, I'd say you did a nice job with the coloring. Though, I wonder if the colors are "swapped around?" If I remember correctly, the Baron and HellKnight's legs are more of a beige color.

Not that this baroness and her 'brothers' have to be similar, I'm just pointing that out out of curiosity.

drew some pics of the baroness attacking.

the first is the baroness building up an energy sphere for her projectile attack. the energy orb would break apart into a plasma scatter shot.

It never quite made sense to me that Arch-Viles couldn't resurrect other Arch-Viles. I suppose that was a conscious decision on the developers part (certainly would have made the game a lot harder, ESPECIALLY HR), but it just seemed logical. Arch-Viles can resurrect everyone else, why not themselves?

Your new images give me the idea that maybe the Baronness can be responsible for that. :-P

yeah, they are arch-vile poses she's in. I am using the a-v sprite as a base for her and the attacks I envisioned her doing in the dream were similar to that. I thought maybe she could spawn some chibi hell knights with her blast field attack, but I think that maybe a lil much. can you see that, a bunch of lil h-k's biting your ankles?

Actually, yes I could, but that's just me. How would you kill them, though? I guess you could use a LookDown move with the newer ports, but I'm still just using oldschool launcher DOOM95.

I don't think it's height would matter in the doom engine. you don't have to look up to shoot a caco-demon thats really high up. I had found this chibi baron based off of a mega man sprite sheet a while ago, thought it was cool enough to make an animated gif of and an avatar.

I'm really not diggin the head on the new one, it looks more like a dog and not even as well drawn as the first one's head, plus I prefer the more original horn arrangement on the first one, I remember that post too...

if you want to improve at your shading I suggest you post all your works at this forum, they got a lot of experienced artists that know what they're talking about and give small tips as well as in-depth critiques, I learned to sprite there, if you've seen my stuff.

I'm not really happy with the head on the new one either, but then again I'm never really happy with any thing I produce. I tend to pick my art apart and find a flaw with everything in it. I do prefer the new horns over the old ones though. the old ones looked too stylized, like if they were sculpted rather than grown naturally. the smaller horns and slimmer body make her "look" less dangerous, when the opposite is true. she'll deal major damage with her attacks, although she'll have less hp than a baron.

Trust me it involved a lot of that too, art is gonna make itself ya know? feedback is always nice.
