[KDiZD] Community Information Thread

Due to copyright issues all Doom2 textures used in KDIZD had to be remade from scratch or coming from a different source than the doom2.wad iwad. I've remade them from scratch (most of them), while Nick made a custom N5 set based on my Doom2 remakes. This stuff replaced the original doom2 textures and the original n5texture pack.
We could have used the textures from Freedoom though, but isn't it cooler having Your own textures? :)

I don't see what the big issue with copyright problems is. I mean technically, you guys should have discontinued this project a long time ago because the maps are based off of the original Doom's maps. :P

Not really, plus they asked directly. The answer by id to any copyrights questions on DOOM is pretty much surmised on their currect terms of use files. You can use stuff from the games, as long as the stuff is used specifically for the game it is taken from.

Hmm, if you use your own textures, cant you make (optional) this mod a standalone iWAD using the FD monsters?

No because they are still restricted to Doom1 since they are using the Doom1 maps as base. That's the whole reason why they switched to Doom1 from Doom2 to begin with.

Besides, why would they want to?

Not all textures were redone, only those that are in doom2 and aren't in doom1, like bricks or metals. Startans I haven't touched for instance.

What You suggested is a possibility, only would require such a shitload of work, that by where this project is now, would be kinda pointless.

Important Notice
We are in the very need of volunteers which can help us with some issues still left to do, first at all Sprite Artists! I know that it is very hard to find persons which are capable of creating beautiful new sprites from scratch or just edit some already created sprites but without help, KDiZD will take another 2-3 months to be finished.

So if you think you are a good sprite artist (such as Vader and Scuba) then feel free to notify us if you are willed to help and we will give you necassery information.

Same goes to several mapping issues but for this I will talk to some Doomers personally of which I think they are capable to help us!

Well, Vader is at last as powerful as Scuba (you will believe me as soon as KDiZD is out ;)) ... but... well, that doesn't solve the problem overall :(

What kind of sprites do you need? I don't consider myself a sprite artist, still I can create new characters recycling and minor editing existing ones, probably I have improved a bit since these monster sprites from DOOM 2.5 (but I can't be sure). If you think that I can help somehow, it'd be a honour for me, if not, I understand.

They look quite nice but I'd like to see full rotation frames and the complete animation. It's easy to create one sprite from a monster but damn hard to create all of them...
