Kenny McCormick Posted October 24, 2005 Ok, got another question. I'm just full of 'em today, wow. Anyways... I still have my copy of shareware vanilla Doom. I have the IWADs from Doom CE as well of course, (and yes legit, bought it from Wal-Mart TYVM) and was wondering if I could put the IWADs in with the shareware install, patch the program up to 1.9 to match the IWADs, and run vanilla Doom on DOSBox? 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted October 24, 2005 The shareware doom.exe version 1.9 is identical to Doom2.exe version 1.9. So yes, it will work with Doom2.wad, and can be used to play Final Doom (albeit without the correct automap names, intermission texts, and without the teleporter bug or altered lost soul behaviour). If you use it with the Ultimate Doom iwad though, you will not be able to play episode 4. You can get the original DOS exes from myk's site, BTW. I haven't heard of anyone getting tolerable results using DOSbox though. :( 0 Share this post Link to post
Torn Posted October 27, 2005 That sounds weird, because on their page it is supported. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kenny McCormick Posted October 27, 2005 I still have my old shareware CD, may as well give it a run-through on DOSBox. Wolfenstein 3d works fine on it though, that's a good sign. 0 Share this post Link to post
Hobbs Posted October 27, 2005 I've played Doom & Doom 2 using DOSBox, but its not really that wonderful. I prefer using VDMSound and using Windows XP to do it myself. 0 Share this post Link to post
