DeumReaper's Music

Recommended Posts

Hello Doomworld community, I'm relatively new to the DooM community, although I've been playing DooM for a very long time.
I'm also currently working towards a BA degree in Music and hope to be a professional trumpet player in the future.
Two things I enjoy doing is playing DooM and playing/composing music; therefore I came up with an idea: as some modders create levels, some are artists, etc. I thought that maybe I could combine these two things and create music that people can use in their DooM wads and projects.
I have just finished my first composition, "In Purgatory" ....let's face it, it kinda sucks, doesn't fit DooM too well as you'd expect from a first attempt.

My Geocities site is <http://www.geocities.com/deumreaper/>

So the point is not really to share my first piece of music, but to introduce myself and I hope to create future works that are great so people can use in their wads and stuff.
I will update the website (the thread too I guess) when I finish songs in the future.

It's not bad though. I like the Doomguy with the trumpet too. :)

New music is always welcome. I see you used modplug. The idgames archive is reluctant to accept mp3 music in WADs generally but the various mod formats are readilly acceptable. If you can make music in mod format, it might be better for distribution with projects.

I look forward to hearing your music. Will it be all MOD/MP3 or will there also be MIDI?

What kind of classes do you have to take for 4 years? That seems like alot for music (but I don't know anything about music). I only ask because I would like to take an intro class here and there when I have an opening in my schedule (my degree will be in electronics).

I've been thinking of eventually releasing a WAD with all the .MODs in it (think zdoom's monster resource pack) with 10 or so maybe even 32 music tracks. Even so, I will still update the geocities site for every single track that comes out so each one can be specifically selected.

Will it be all MOD/MP3 or will there also be MIDI?

I want to make both, but then it will depend on the track, generally my goal with MODs is to compose tracks that will fit a new generation of DooM beyond the original score of the games (void.wad comes to mind). However, MIDIs will be created if people want to have a MIDI old-school style track to use.
Although MODs can sound old-school and MIDIs can sound new-school, I hope to use both in the future.

My schedule (excluding the core ones) is usually theory, piano proficiency (i can almost play e1m1 heh), 2-4 ensembles(orchestra, jazz, etc), and a private applied trumpet class.

A week later, I'm proud to present my next track, "Sonic-shock."
I'm very happy on how it turned out for my second track, check out the website on the sig.

On the side, I have a question: the reason I upload these songs in MP3 format is because every time I replace the original music in XWE with the .it (Impulse Tracker, what my tracks are formatted originally) it crashes when its played in zdoom.
I thought zdoom had support for ITs before as well as MODs and other module formats. Am I doing something wrong?
