Canary Squadron Released

Hi all, please check out http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=14096 for my new six level map-set for Doom2 - Canary Squadron.

I'm still quite new to editting so please leave comments, advice and constructive critism. Praise where due would also be nice! Also, out of interest please tell me your favourite/least favourite maps and reasons why in your reply posts.

It's already come to me attention that this .WAD may cause errors in some ports so stick to ZDoom to avoid potential problems. I was aware that MAP05 was unplayable in Vanilla Doom due to untagged sectors but, since it did not affect ZDoom, I (apparently wrongly) assumed other ports would also be unaffected. As VPO errors made the .WAD unplayable in vanilla anyway I didn't bother fixing the errors (lesson learned!)

This would probably mean that it won't run with any other port.

Certainly seems that way. Never mind though, I'll know for next time and making a ZDoom map won't alienate too many Doomers as I gather most use it any way.

Why not fix the errors and rerelease it? It should only take a few minutes to do so.

If you don't know how to track these errors down, ask for advice and say which editor you're using, and someone will no doubt explain how to do it.

I'd rather not Grazza, unless you think it's a significant problem.

It would be a bit more convulted for me to do then you might expect* and, even if I fixed the untagged sectors, it still wouldn't work on Vanilla Doom because of VPO's. Are there that many source port users who don't use ZDoom?

*I'm using my work's computer right now. I'd have to fix the .WAD on my home computer, which would mean an ear-bashing from my girlfriend because I'd told her I'd be taking a break from it :). Then my home computer has no internet access so I'd have to upload the .WAD on my brother's PC.

THere are some who really like to prefer to use another one. If it fails due to such a minor problem it's your reputation that will suffer. Best fix it.

An average mapset without any ZDoom features that is ZDoom specific because it's buggy? One play only material.

I'll re-release then. But it'll take me a few days (see above). Just a few questions to help me do so:

1. I used WADED to make the map - is there a quick way to determine where the errors are being caused?

2. Or would it be quicker and/or easier to download Doombuilder bearing in mind I've never used the program before?

3. Am I right in thinking all major source ports eliminate VPOs?

4. Basically, if I can run through the levels in Vanilla Doom encountering no errors (excluding VPOs) can I assume it's fixed?

5. Will someone be kind enough to run a quick test in the main source ports if I email the .WAD to them after I've fixed the errors? I have no experience in any port other than ZDoom.

6. Finally, is there any way the original .WAD can be deleted when I release the new one - so it replaces it in effect? It seems pointless having both in the archive.

Apologies for the double post. I had to chance to use my brother's PC so I took it. I think I've fixed Canary Squadron to work in any limit removing port and re-uploaded it as canfix.wad. I imagine it'll be available for download in the next few days. If it's still not working I'm lost for ideas - someone may need to help me out.
