LexiMax Posted June 1, 2006 Carnevil said:I disagree. I don't think competition falls apart the second battlefield becomes dynamic. Things are constantly evolving over a wide variety of competitive media, like the business world. People don't give up and stop being competitive because some new law was put into place, or some new technology was invented that dramatically changes things. Even in video games, people aren't going to stop playing Warcraft III (or a better game) just because Blizzard releases a patch that fixes glaring gameplay issues (or if you do quit, maybe the "want" just wasn't strong enough). The problem is that most people think about balance changes and new "competative" maps without really thinking things through. They just want people to play the game on their terms, and since trying to make one game to satisfy everyone is pretty much hopeless, you have to have a set of standards and adhere to them, no matter how much hemming and hawing you get. However, I also disagree with the assertion that OS should only stick to a few maps. It's just that not many maps are good enough to be able to rival the estabilshed maps. Take Quake for instance. For a long time, there were a couple of maps that everybody played, which were DM2, DM3, DM4 and DM6. Over the years, tons of new maps have been made. However, a very select few have withstood the test of time and are being played today. These include older classics like ztndm3, and relatively new maps like aerowalk and skull. OS players would LOVE new maps. But you need to be able to produce the goods. So far, very few people have been able to measure up. Personally, if anyone is in a position to make the next awesome OS map, my money is on Toke. But who knows. 0 Share this post Link to post

The fact is that any competitive environment builds sets of maps on which to compete. It's a natural selective process based on the playing experience itself. Not some "oh, no, no new maps should be used" philosophy. That idea, of making what actually does happen seem some restrictive artificial thing, mostly comes from mappers (or newbie players) that are not really into the gaming side of the game. The players "limit" the maps by playing the maps they play and not others, not somebody's arbitrary decision-making. Each map, if it is any good, needs a considerable amount of time to become a solid and popular playing field, and just because mappers produce a lot of maps, that does not mean players will not spend the appropriate amont of time on the chosen maps. More maps means more choices, but you can only make so many choices during a period, unless you are able to spend a lot of time trying out maps and agreeing on them (not often as easy at it seems to some), which wouldn't be more than the time for playing competitively (which is what really matters). 0 Share this post Link to post

I don't know about the Zdaemon forum (cause I am not registered there), but on every other forum I've registered to that required activation of the username, it's been up to the user himself to do this by following a link that is sent by mail to him the minute he registers to the forum. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooMAD Posted June 1, 2006 Craigs said:I'm still pissed off at at Raider anyway for not activating my forum account on the Zdaemon forums even though it's been 4 years since I registered... the "How to register to use these forums" thread says: After you register a forum account you will need to have it activated by an administrator. To do this, use the ZDaemon launcher and join the chat lobby by clicking the # button. This will bring you to the #zdplayers channel. When you join the #zdplayers channel, contact either _Raider_ or LG_Samiam. Either of them can activate your account for you. If you do not get a response, leave a message and they will activate your account when they get the message. Be sure to leave the EXACT name you registered with! 0 Share this post Link to post
kristus Posted June 1, 2006 That's funny. I've never seen it done like that before. 0 Share this post Link to post

There's a guy on Zdaemon who has made countless racist comments toward black and jewish people who STILL hasn't been banned. Slight possibility there's a little racist bastard in Raider? 0 Share this post Link to post

Phobos Posted August 23, 2006 Skulltag Offline is awesome with the bots (The new version will proberly have CTF Support ^^) but online most of the servers are US so i rarely see many people playing , me in UK. Zdaemon very fun and easy to use, but not as fun as Skulltag with all the new gamemodes, powerups etc. 0 Share this post Link to post
